In the mid 50s, I was driving a '37 Packard on a blend of (free) stove oil and regular gas. Regular was about 25~27 cents a gal. We all feared it would soon hit 30 cents some day. Once the low compression straight 8 was warm, I'd put in about 5 or 6 gallons of kerosene with about 12 to 15 gallons of gasoline to make the near 100 mile trip from Oceanside to LA. Put in regular gas for the weekend's running around and the return trip. No free stove oil in LA. :-)
