  • Didn't get much done, everything i was gonna pull from the parts car was bad so i ordered a new passenger CV shaft and rear shock (thank the lord for shop discounts). and while i was checking everything i swapped all good (hopefully) tires on to the 90 and 3 of the bad tires to the 91 (just need to dig out the space saver to swap the last one). Hopefully tommorow my radio adapter will come in so i can get my headunit wired in after school and before church. Then thursday i should be able to get everything else done and should finally have a Festiva i can drive over 40mph. If i finish soon enough i might try to find a piece of box tubing to get my trailer hitch done.

Then i won't do much to it because I'm going to try to rebuilt the head on my ranger and get it running (money allowing of course). Also gonna try to get the 91 stripped down so i can crush it.

    • New clutch cable arrived today. Got it installed with no issues. Discovered the reason the old one broke... must have be a crack in the housing that let some water in as it was full of rust

          • wow a lot broke

On Jan 28 & 29 I broke a lot of stuff Ice Racing. (See quote at bottom)
            93 Festi with B6T & G25mr
            • Sunday we pulled the axles, tranny, control arms with broken ball joints, front hubs with grinding bearings, and the slipping clutch.
            • Monday I soldered the black/white wire from the Festiva engine fuse block point to the Mazda 323 harness that powers the main relay, fuel cut relay and the distributor, so now the car will start. Took 2-half day efforts to find the fault! I also assembled a new Monroe front strut/spring unit so I can replace the weak one I swapped in at the track the week before.
            • Tuesday I had the fly wheel machined and installed a stage 3 F1 racing clutch from the Gripforce eBay store, a 6 puck copper ceramic that should take the boost better.
            • Took the G25mr tranny into a shop Monday to get 3rd gear looked at 'cause it was popping out, then ordered synchros, 3rd gear and the 3-4 selector hub. Parts were delivered Tuesday.
            • Monday I found a good front hub/brake assembly at PnP only to have someone collect it from the inside of the car while I was off getting an Aspire shock. So Tuesday I gave up on cheap and took the hubs into a shop for two new front bearings and brake rotors.

            • Tuesday Hiroki welded up the crack in the subframe, solidified the rear custom tranny mount in which the rubber was separating, and removed the rounded off nut on the sway bar bracket.

Once the tranny and hubs are back it all has to go together quickly for this weekend's race, Feb 11 & 12.

            During the race Jan 28 & 29:

I broke way too many things this weekend. The clutch overheated Saturday and started slipping pretty bad in 3rd & 4th, so I had to shift less and be gentle on the throttle. The cv boot ripped open, and we patched it that night with crazy glue and silcone tape. The nut on the top of the front strut rattled off, broke the strut, and we swapped in a new assembly at the track, then later aligned it as I somehow gained 1.25 inches of toe out. A tire blew out, with two studs ripping out, and I spun into a snow bank. I put on a spare. The wire to the alternator burned away by 3 inches, the post on the alternator arced into vapour and the alternator internals won't spin right anymore. At some point the battery quit and I drifted off to a stop. We swapped in a Festi alternator and fixed the wiring, and taped up the cv boot. One or two wins, I lost track. My thanks to Hiroki and Terry for all their help.

Then on Sunday it popped out of third 3 times in 30 seconds, started spewing oil from the main front seal or the dip stick (not sure yet) and lost spark, cruising to a halt, after winning 3 races with a slipping clutch. We pushed it back onto the trailer, and called the weekend a victory. But there sure is a lot of work to do before it ice races again. Such is racing.

Please sir I beg of you, reveal your sources so that I too may partake of the cheapness! I haven't found them anywhere for less than about $40, and then ~$10 to ship on top of that. I'd love to have some spare 12" tires around!

Today I cleaned up the block where I pulled the intake to replace the freeze plug in Festevil. I was hoping to get to drive him but realized that a couple of the nuts/bolts for the intake were missing. I have plenty of spares on my other motors, but unfortunately those are over at dad's house right now. I will go over there at lunch time and retrieve a few though Can't wait to drive him, I hope there aren't any other problems I'll find, he did sit a while though before I got him.
              No festiva for me ATM...

                    • It's not directly festiva related but last night I bought a trailor hitch for my escape, once I got it installed I'll just need to pick up a few little minor things for the car dolley and I'm set up for towing again

This way when I wanna take my festiva to the track I can tow it there and not worrying about break downs, or when I pick up a car for project reasons, I won't have to worry about asking my buddy all the time lol

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

                      • Good times, nothing like having your own towing rig to use whenever/wherever you need it

Can't see the van much in this pic but its my '94 Astro and 16' flatbed from when I originally picked up Danny's car for the B6 swap.

And now for what I did today. Finally drove Festevil out on the streets for the first time! Heat works great, really need to get a radio put in though so I can hear how the 6 1/2s in the doors and rear speaker panels sound. Other than that, not a bad ride, the suspension is pretty solid, I think it must have Aspire springs on it. I know its got KYBs, Aspire brakes, and an Aspire sway bar, but it seems to sit higher up with the 155/80R13s than Green Car does with the same tires. Anyway, here it is at the parking lot at work, I'll try to get a couple more pics at lunchtime. Still on the fence about selling it, I'm not sure I like how the trans feels when shifting, it may just be the short shifter messing with my head, but it feels like it wants to jump out of of 2nd and reverse. 4th feels fine though, which is what makes me think it might not be the shifter. Time will tell. If it is broken or if I keep it for myself I'll probably put in a 5 speed anyway because I like having that extra gear up top when running pizza

Keep an eye on the FS section too lol, the swoopies are going bye-bye as soon as I get my other set of escort mirrors cut
