Did festivas come stock with painted bumpers? I see a bunch of them from time to time and i was just wondering if people did that on there own or the cars came that way

yes, they did on the GL's (1990-1993)

    i think I've seen them on a select few LX's (1988-1989)

If you paint yours be sure to use alot of "flex in the paint" other wise the paint will flake and chip right off. I have seen some 88 and 89's with painted bumpers. I you paint your just be sure to add flex in the paint.

          besides the flex additive

prep is the most important thing to do before painting

sanding and using a high quality prep solvent is a must

then using a bare plastic adhesion promoter also a good idea.

then use a good sand-able primer , to fix imperfections or maybe to cover the texture of the unpainted bumper.flex additive can be mixed into the primer( with some primers only)

then wet sand and clean with prep solvent

then use a compatible sealer before your base coat(no flex here)

          apply basecoat

then apply clearcoat mixing with flex additive

if not using a two or three stage paint(base+clear or base, mid-coat + clear)
and decide on using a single stage (no clearcoat used) you must mix it with flex additive.

I think i might just stick with the race Grey plastic bumper. Plus paint will weigh the car down

50 pounds  only if your using a led based paint that is a 50lb brick of lead in a can of paint. If you are just painting your bumpers your looking at more like under 1 pound of added weight. Plus you will end up with less wind resistance with the gloss paint (minimal but every little bit helps).

psh 1 lb, 50 lbs close enough

(sarcasm for any one who thinks I'm serious that paint weighs 50 lbs)

next time I'll weigh it before i paint it.

my guess about a 1/2 pound.

most of the solvents in the paint and clear evaporate while it dries.

and if you need to lose weight, just look at the fat ass behind the wheel, can we say DIET?????

The painted bumper was an option. I have a 92 GL the really bright sea breeze blue and it has them. I asked this question about a year ago, and someone posted the paint codes by year and model! It was awesome. Great info if someone had that available to post again.

I can't imagine paying extra for a "Painted Bumper" option. LOL. I do think the painted bumpers look better, plus they don't fade like the gray ones do.

My 89 has black/grey bumpers. I plan on either painting or replacing them because I personally do not like the black ones.
