You have to have flux. The flux is what makes it adhere. You can buy brass rod with a flux coating on it already, it's will have a white powder coating on it. I usually just get a piece of brass rod and a can of flux in powder form. Then you lightly heat the end of the brass rod (like 4 inch or so) then you put the rod into the can of flux and the powder will stick to it. You can usually buy brass rod and flux at hardware stores like lowes or home depot. I know farm and fleet has it for sure. Let me know if you need any help you can call me.1921 Model T

well i made a patch piece for the hole, i forgot to get a picture of it, i hammered all the metal down to make it as low as possible and used some thick fiberglass filler on top to hopefully smooth it out and make it nice and straight. doesn't look to bad, hopefully it will sand nicely and i will use some finer bondo to make it paint ready.

A trick for using bondo: Before it totally hardens, take a cheese grater like body tool and shave the excess off close to the finished level. It also exposes ripples and craters. Use as long a tool as possible to prevent ripples that will show in shiny paint. It also saves sanding and dust.
