New Tire Wear

Ok so got new tires mounted and balanced on the rear of Festy last week. On the way home from work this morning I ended up driving through what I think was a bunch of clothes in the road. I mean all over road across 2 lanes for about 2 car lengths. Could not avoid it safely. So when I got home I checked my tires just to make sure nothing was struck in my tires. That is when I noticed that the new tire hairs for lack of better term were worn more on my passenger tire. Drivers side is still like new & passenger has about half the hair length gone. Is this something I should be concerned about. After all the trouble of finding new 12" rubber I don't want to ruin them before I order the front tires this Friday when I get payed. Thanks in advance for any input

not to worry there! you should monitor your actual tread wear (like uneven thickness from inner to outer blocks, chopping, tramping, sharp leading edges, etc.)

The little hairs are actually built to take up the excess rubber when the tire is made. Maybe the one side just had a tiny bit less raw rubber when it was pressed.

Nothing to worry about. Just keep them inflated right and watch for weird wear patterns. Usually if your old tires were fine, the new ones will be just the same if your tire place is pretty reputable and does good work.

For more accuracy, you might get a tire tread depth guage to use.

I agree, nothing to worry about at this point. I would, however, recommend having an alignment done once you install the new front tires....just for good measure. If your struts, wheel bearings & ball joints are good and you rotate the tires often, you'll get a lot of miles out of a set of tires. Even with suspension issues, tire rotation will help tremendously.

Cool thanks guys kinda figured it wasn't a problem. Old tires had even wear and I do plan on an alignment after front tires are on Just got worried when the little rubber hair things had such a difference and was worried if it would mean tire tread was in danger. Lol get worried easily about my 2 babies the Festy & my cat :tongue3:

Keep an eye on it. Might need to do a DIY alignment. Pretty easy on these cars.
