  • can I paint on top of clearcoat?

I just painted my hub caps, and theres a little scratch on one already (before it went on my car).. anyway, ive already put 4 layers of spray paint and 2 layers of clear on it over a 4 day timeframe, is it ok to just sand it a little to scuff and smooth it then paint, or do I have to strip all the paint back off to make it perfect?

Scuff and paint away, I honestly would clean it and spray color over everything then the clear. You are worrying too much, it's not like it's car paint.

Just wondering..i aspire to paint my car soon, so if that got scratched.......

I hate being like this but I like stuff to be perfect, or as close as I can get it anyway. I realise the road rash is gonna tear it up sooner or later, but i just invested almost 2 weeks in spray painting hub caps, it needs to be perfect, even if its just for a minute!
