So I take it the frame is damaged badly then? To Dean that was the only thing that could actually "kill" a festie and render it unroadable. Anything else just needed the right parts from other unroadable cars. Not even title issues were a big deal to him, he would just hold onto them till a title could be worked out.

Jay says the heat from the fire would have made the frame, I don't know the word but un-tempered/weakened the steel and made it not safe.

There are lots of options and we are already scheming.

Option 1 - is to save whatever we can and build another one from the other yellow Festiva I have. We got this one a couple of years ago and it is sitting in the back yard:

It's now been sitting a couple of years and Ladyblaster wanted to buy it but it may become 42.1. Sorry Angie.

Option 2 - A few weeks ago we stripped two cars and saved almost everything and I do mean almost everything. I took pictures but never got time to post them. The only things we actually got rid of are the windshields and one front end that was too wrecked to reuse. If the damage behind the firewall isn't too bad, we could try to cut the front end off and replace it. Not sure Jay is going for that idea.

I even have the original yellow hood stored. I hate that the black hood got destroyed though because it was a nice one.

When everyone is here for FM5, you guys will definitely work out a game plan. By then Aquastiva will be out of the garage and on the road and I guess we will need a new project!

Sad to hear that, it will be sorely missed. I understand though if the frame is weakened, I probably wouldn't want to try to piece together after that either. I'll put in my vote for 42.1 though! Only rules are the hood and grill must be black, and ALL the stickers recreated. Gotta stick with the 12s up front and the 13s out back as well (bring the rear Aspire swap over to the new one, shouldn't be damaged).

              I just saw this!

              Glad you're okay Barbara!!

Whatever you do I'm sure will suit Dean's memory. Might want to buy a fire extinguisher for 42.1.

there's some simple checks that can be done to determine the condition of the steel in the unibody. I'll be glad to help look it over when I get there. And, judging by the pictures, I wouldn't count it out just yet...

I think 42 can be revived. That would have to of been a super hot fire to un-temper the metal. Hot enough to melt that windshield.

Thats a real shame, I've always liked that car !! I've rebuilt a burned out festiva before but it wasnt that bad. Mine was contained in the engine bay. Looks like the interior has some serious damage on # 42.

exactly my thoughts. Especially since its just mild steel. HSS wasn't in widespread use until the late 90's. But, as was said, it's Barb's choice! She makes all final decisions regarding 42.
