  • HELP..Festiva FAILED NC Inspection today for stupid BS

so all my lights work high n low beams signals flash correctly brake light all work tires are fair but will need replaced in a lil while an i failed for a dull drivers side headlamp () IM LOST

..so i went to another garage to have it looked at an then they tore it apart ...small crack in left front turn signal FAIL.......... tires they didnt like the way they looked an said it is close enough to trade wear to be questionable so FAIL............... rear side windows tinted FAIL........... tail lights drivers side has a crack FAIL........... heat sheild over muffler has a slight rattle FAIL............ and the best one that i had to argue about was an get this NO PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR ...FAIL!!!.................i had to have the guy look up the car online to prove it didnt come with one from the factory ........REALLY ?

so does anyone near the NC coast have a driver side headlight assembly ...a passenger side front turn signal and a drivers side tail light for a 93 festy i have till 12/15/11 to get in compliance or there taking my tag

an i start a new job next week driving truck so im going to be gone 10 to 12 days at a time which limits my time to get things fixed an the festy is going to be my drive to work car ( the company yard is 230 miles from the house 1 way ) an the MPG's are gonna be needed for that trip every 2 weeks

so can anyone help i got this week im trying to get it all straight so it isnt a issue for me once im working again seeing i will have enough to worry about being over the road again after not working in a year an a half

thank you to anyone that has a part i may need in advance cuzz i want the festy on the road an i want it legal even more so after talking to the NC Inspection guys today seems they have to be super picky on the older cars now

but told me that any car that is 30 years old or older no longer has to be inspected in NC so im gonna start looking for a 70 hatch of some kind hopefully maybe i can find a old school fiesta or escort if not a honda cvcc

again thank you to anyone who may have a part i need they would sell me

that shop needs to be reported NCDOT, they are abusing the inspection laws to make money. i have taken the NC inspection exam and the only thing questionable is the tint. did they meter the tint? did they measure the tread depth or guess. if they guessed they fail!

Best bet is to sell that car in a state that doesn't require inspections (i.e. ohio..) and buy another car that will pass your inspections. It's still not legal to have cracked light covers, but it's not illegal till you get cought!

the rear windows are going clear anyway so that part didnt bother me so much but he said with rear side windows covered ( cant see thru it ) it needs both side mirrors ..the whole deal was a mess in my opinion...an i agree because he was overly quick to refrence me to a pick n pull to find parts ( already checked no festy's at all ) an said if i got the tail light the headlight an the turn signal replaced it would pass but barely because they really arent liking the 12" wheels they thought they were trailer tires ........so Pass side frnt turn signal , drivers side headlight assembly , an drivers side taillight an then it should pass ...im jus tryingto get it done before i go on the road

^ and it shows.... (not in a god way).

mattman, i don't know about NC safety law, but anything BEHIND the driver should be allowed tint. as for the cracks in the lenses, they MUST allow white light to pass through to fail, the headlamp needs to be measured for output in order to fail (minimum candle power should be listed in the inspection book) unless the inside reflector is damaged, in which case: fail.

as for the tires, there are wear indicators built into every DOT tire. if the tread is above those indicators, it's a pass, period.

d yourself a favor and get a copy of the inspection manual for NC and have it with you next time you go in.

Mattman, if push comes to shove, I know a guy who will pass you with a little grease in his palm. I'd have to talk to him first to be sure though.

You need to take your car to western australia.. you will pass better then half the cars.. i had seen some of the "locals" in my old town driving a registered chassis that was an old Gq patrol that had been cut at the bottom of the doors.. i was like O__O.
We had our old landcrusier that had a shoestring as a brake line , once a car is registered there.. it doesnt matter what it looks like as long as the rego is paid.. And to fail on a lightbulbs brightness is further than BS.
