I'm a little hunk of tin, nobody knows what shape I'm in. I've got four wheels and a running board, I'm not a Chevy, I'M A FORD!
I use salad oil, because Pu241 tells me its polymerastic coefficient is far superior to synthetic oil when subjected to atmospheric conditions in excess of 300 millirems of anhydrous blah blah blah.....
Depending on how many miles your car has on it and whether it knocks a little when you start it up when its cold out, I use 5w-30 in winter and 10w-30 in summer. Depending on how much you drive it, I usually change my oil about every three months. I have 205,000 miles on mine and it does not burn oil. Change filter too, i use fram. But thats just me.

+1 on 5W30 winter, 10W30 summer. Not sure it matters whether you use off-brand or not. I think frequency of oil/filter changes is more important. When I feel sorry for it, I use Castrol High Mileage.
Good filters: NAPA Gold, Wix, Purolator (PL series, not L series). Used to use Frams, but got prejudiced against them after hearing they went cheap at some point. But I suspect they now have a quality range too, like Purolator and NAPA.
Sounds good. Mine uses or loses oil often. So I'm adding freash often. I try just to buy the cheap. I still change oil and filter about 3,000 or 3-5 months.
I just bought 5w-30 Valvoline recycled oil last night.

Sorry about my signature. EVO is my phone with decks ROM and Bruce Lee is the name of the kernel.
Yes I'm using tapatalk
I thought the Kernel's name was Sanders? Or was that Colonel? Or maybe this is some new kind of popcorn I've never heard of? In which case the oil question makes a little more sense, as in, "what kind of oil is the best for making popcorn?" In which case, I'm sorry but I doubt I'll be of much help since both my wife and I can't stand popcorn and therefore I don't know much about making it.
Oh, in my car I like to put in Castrol GTX 10W30 usually
5W-30 and 10W-30 are the same exact viscosity (SAE 30) once up to operating temp. The difference is that 5W-30 is not as "thicK" at cold start-up (SAE 5 vs. SAE 10), so it actually flows better when cold and offers better protection at the time when engine wear is the greatest.
I use Motorcraft Synthetic blend oil and filters. It's an excellent synthetic blend oil (also flows better when cold) and can be had at Wal-Mart as cheap or cheaper than other conventional oils. Unfortunately, Motorcraft 5W-30 is becoming hard to find at Wal-Mart. Seems like all they are stocking lately is 5W-20. I can get it at Autozone, but their oil is pretty pricey, so the last few times I've had to switch to Valvoline or Castrol synthetic blends.
I agree with Tom, the frequency of changes is by far the most important aspect!
My last oil change was Castrol GTX syn-blend 10W-30.
Before that was Motorcraft syn-blend 5W-20 but I was leaking/burning a bit so I went up on weight. May try Rotella next go around if I'm still using oil...
Before the head gasket replacement I was using the cheapest oil I could find because it was burning out nearly as fast as I could pour it in.
