I Found a Mazda 323 GTX!!......but.....

But....it has 200,000 miles! And doesnt run! This guy has got this car pretty torn up. Hes even has the fuse box cut out :shock: he just decided to start cutting wires!
He wants 500 bucks which is ok I guess, but I know for a fact, the engine needs rebuilt, so I called around to see how much it would be to rebuild JUST THE BOTTOM END...and the cheapest quote I got was 1400 bucks! :? ouch. I could rebuild the engine myself but I cant even find a rebuild kit.
Anybody know of anything?

If you are starting with a pretty much gutted GTX just get a bpt/w the awd tranny.... It is a great starting point and strengthens the gtx's only problem SUBSTANTIALLY. No diff lock motor, just LSCD goodness.

That's we're I'm gonna order my rebuild kit. But if you don't want to do it yourself, ask them a quote to know how much they'll charge you.

500$ is too much, I bought mine 350$ CAN with the engine running in it. It was just the rust that was eating it.

Im putting the engine in a festy, so I dont care about the GTX. Ill just pull the motor and sell the rolling chassie (spelling?)
Ill just have to talk the guy down, thats what he said that he wanted, so I know I can get him down at least a couple hundred more.

$500 is a good price. You should be able to sell enough of the remaining parts from it to cover your purchase. You should come out with a free motor. The tranny if in good shape will bring $200. The front and rear suspension will bring some money. Interior, wheels, differential, etc. But still try to talk him down.

I don't think parting out a decent condition 323GTX/GT to put the engine in a Festiva is worth it. A GTX is a legendary rally racing winner and has a huge cult-like following! Take engines from Capri XR2s, or use BP engines... don't dismantle such rare cars for only their engine. That's just ignorant. There are people out there who would love to own the GTXs that Festiva owners are just chopping up for parts. I like Festivas and all, but I know where to draw the line. A clean GTX is worth ten times the money that a Festiva is worth, not to mention it's ten times the car (from an engineering stand-point).

That being said, I parted out a 323GT to get my B6T. But the body on my 323 was so beyond repair that it wouldn't pass a safety inspection, and the car also needed almost everything replaced. My intentions were to drive the 323 until the body was too rotted, then I'd swap the engine into a Festiva (which I would purchase at that time). But when I got the car inspected, they told me it was beyond repair.

parting out cars, especially the 323 gtx is always sad, but if it is beyond reasonable repair i think it is better to part it out and have tons of pieces living on in running cars than junking it or letting it rot in your backyard.

I agree that if it is beyond repair ok... But if it is somewhat salvageable... save it. I have a GTX I could use parts off of for my running one... But, I don't want to strip it even for myself. It is for sale for WAY WAY WAY less than I could get for it, just because I want to see it on the road again someday.

I agree about not parting out the GTX. The body on the car is flawless!
The car just needs to be put back together and cleaned a crap loud!
The GTX actually has some after factory goodies, like a boost controller, and auto meter boost guage. I have actually have always wanted a GTX I almost bought one 2 years ago but the car was was too much money! But my problem is.......you guessed it MONEY! I dont like owning two cars I have to put money in....I mean if I buy this GTX Im going to put money in it, but...I have Sport. The only way I would do it, is if I sold little Sportster. Let me know what you guys think of my sitsuation.
