That being said, the competitive side of me would like to see our top Festivas go against the Geo forum's top cars. No rear-engine cars. FWD, like it was intended. Whatever you can stick in the engine bay. 1/8 & 1/4 mile, then a time trial on a circuit of some kind. Then a huge meet!

It doesn't seem like anybody is interested in that over there.

& some of those turbo swifts are pretty quick! i think in stock form they have around 100 h.p.

The GT's I believe have 100hp with the 1.3 DOHC

As our cars get older and fewer we might do well to join up with the Metros and/or a few other very small cars to keep our online communities going in a more efficient fashion.

As for me, I'll take just about any of the reasonably well built old lightweight hatchbacks over any "modern" wasteful overpriced techno junkmobile sold nowadays.

I just hate too much computerization, luxury-zation, overpriced-zation, etc.

I feel sorry for folks with "car payments." I spell that S-L-A-V-E-R-Y.

I have owned 2 gti's, 1 turbo sprint, and 1 n/a firefly

They are great cars but quality? my gosh the quality of those cars is appauling.

This is why i dont own any any more:

The engines all loose compression and their transmissions are SUPER weak, the second you put power to them they break, way more then festy transmissions. The engines are also impossible to make power from

the unibody construction is horrendous, they make bad road noises, their windows never seal good, their window's rarely roll up. the suspension design is HORRENDOUS!!!! the control arms in the rear are made from string.

They are ok looking, but i think the festiva has a true 80's retro boxy style.

You cant do anything to them. For a GTI you can boost it (which is huge bucks btw) or get a chip and exhaust whichw ill net you 20 hp but cost you 500 bucks. There are no engine swaps or anything available

And VERY hard to find parts. It took me 300$ and 2 months to find a stock distributor for my GTI, and dont even talk about the turbo firefly parts for that thing do not exist.

Chris! You stick large engines into little cars and put on big turbos and custom wiring! That abnormal stuff requires too much work!!

Stop that and get you a nice stock Festiva or two to simply "maintain." As in, change oil, filters, put on new brake pads, and clean the interior. Maybe average 12 minutes per month on "basic maintenance" until you need an engine rebuild in the year 2034.

Then you won't be so stressed as you motor sedately down the street humming something from Mozart or Peter, Paul and Mary as you mentally calculate how much $$$ you're saving by running 63 hp engines and 12" tires which give you 44+ MPGs and a feeling of philosophical & environmental harmony!

Prius owners will flock to you to find out the meaning of the universe, due to your newfound aura of peacefulness and one-ness with all that you survey!

"His car is over 20 years old," they'll say to each other, "and he spends practically nothing to drive across the United States from Canada and then onto the African Veldt to commune with giraffes!"

You'd then no longer need a "newer" car and you'd have hours to burn watching the grass grow as you play chess with three toed sloths in your spare time! :p

^^I think so lol but Karl, gotta remember I have a little girl to think about too, so a smaller car isn't as practical right now, when she was a few months old, it took nothing to fill up my aspire to the roof on a road trip, i needed something bigger
