Are you sure we aren't married to the same woman somehow? Lol. We are on a similar search (she already has a festiva but we need a 4 door for getting little baby girl in and out of her carseat easier). She has already informed me that there is no WAY she will drive an egg lol. So anyway, here's our list in somewhat order of what we're considering right now.

            1. '91-'96 Escort wagon. Practical and fairly reliable. Also available pretty cheap on CL all day long

            2. mid '90s Corolla wagon. Hard to find but tough as nails.

            3. Taurus wagon through '95.

            4. Cavalier or celebrity wagon

            5. Rio5. Newer, more expensive.

            6. Tracker or Sidekick 4 door.

            7. Escape. Would be nice, but rarely are any for sale in our price range.

            8. Any other wagons pretty much except the jellybean ('96-'99) Taurus wagons.
            No festiva for me ATM...

I'd like to sell my Mazda 626... Car runs good but I want a Festy lol. Gas milage is good, in the 30's but if I could get back into the 40's again for daily driving it would save me a lot of money. Been meaning to post it but I haven't had a chance yet.

i'd keep an eye out for an escort wagon, high 30s on the highways, cheap, boxy, easy to work on, and you will have a littlw extra space to store stuff in.

Ever thought of buying a Toyota Echo? My THIN and I have had 4 of these now, and have never had to do anything other than brakes, tires, and batteries (my thin likes to leave the lights on, lol)

Best of all, they are pretty inexpensive (around here a decent 2000 4dr Echo with medium Mileage goes for $2500-$3200) AND get 36mpg if you get an Auto, and 44mpg if you get a Manual!

Here are a couple pics of our Echos (the last one we only had for 2-3 months before a Nissan Rogue (in one of the pics) decided to run a red light)

This should be perfect for your wide - A 1986 Escort GT! If you cross your eyes, it has 4 doors.

i cant beleive i called her a "wide" i showed her when i got home and she cracked up.

i do like all the cars posted but she is into like mk1 rabbits and she would take a mk1 (u.s.) escort. dhe is dead set on a 4 door but i need something i can work on and is cheap for parts. i dont like the early vw set up with the digifont crap and the non crossflow motors, they are just like the omni with the stupid tbi. and i really dont want to deal with carb either because i have 0 experience with it. i just want her to have an auto festiva because i understand the car. there has to be a happy medium somewhere
-90 festiva - bp swap "relentless" (thanks matt) aspire swap, pacesetter, underdrive pulley
-90 festiva - surf blue (undetermined destiny) wanna keep but wifey says noooooooo
