htchbck- Funny you say that. A co-worker, at the time the guy newer than me, had an Explorer he used to deliver. At first I thought it was silly, but he would always get better tips, despite the fact that I was better with customers, as he admitted. I had a theory that the customers took one look at his gas drinker and tipped more, so I would try to hide my car behind bushes and stuff, because as far as I knew, people believed that my car ran on air or magic or something lol.
And yeah, that was my case. This is my only car, so repairs put me out of commission for a bit. I would get another one if it was cheap enough, but in my nine months here, I have only seen ONE other Festiva here in the Houston area. A faded little red one. Not that I'm really picky on that one, but there aren't many cars you can get for less than $600 and they'll often still work

It's hard to just find a rolling chassis for under 600..I've been looking for awhile and everyone wants 750+ for their broken & rotted car. By the time you fix it, even doing work yourself, you don't profit.

Yeah, I tried Wal-mart once (sadly) at the lube dept. The manager in charge of that dept was a total ****wad who dismissed me to wait about an hour and a half in the back before he could talk to me. They weren't even really busy (I've worked some BUSY motor bays before) and after that huge wait and the other managers trying to get a hold of him, he left(?!) with me still in the back of the store. The lube assistant manager was fairly nice though and she pushed for me because I had experience and military background.
When I came back the next day, he said that they were full.

When I came back a few weeks after I got my delivery job to get some tranny fluid, I asked the two new, attractive young clerks at the lube dept if they carried Merc V or a similar fluid. They looked at me like I was speaking Greek. I assume the manager basically wanted eye candy....pathetic

^Our Wal-Mart is like that too. You don't get anything unless you know somebody, have the correct anatomy, or can prove beyond a shadow that they can't replace you and then use that leverage. I did the later and still lost a promo to somebody who was in good with all the uppers. Even after impressing the lady manager who interviewed me.

At the same time they'll feel sorry for somebody who is lazy as dirt and give them leniency because they have "problems". It blows my mind the stuff that I see happen that I personally know the details of. The whole time corporate is pushing doing more with less people and knowing every step the few left make.

Well, I would work at Discount Tire again. I was a crew chief there for a while. It was a fun workplace. Fast, good quality work, usually run by a bunch of laid back, typically friendly country-ish guys who do whatever it takes and bend rules to satisfy the customer, and they enjoy their job and have a good time. And the pay was pretty good. Unfortunately, I would have to cut off all my hair. Plus, my parents and friends would kill me for putting my fingers in danger again with those stupid Xtra low profile tires (I'm an aspiring musician btw)

As for the Wal-Mart incident, I may rely on bologna sandwiches and cheap eats, but I REFUSE to work for managers that shallow and scummy lol

Oh we have that htchbck. Redneck toothless women too lol. But mainly at this place it's mainly Shaniqua, Lashawnda, Shanaynay, Lathonka, Shalamboreetulaqua, La-sha (pronounced "LaDASHuh"...I wish I was making that up) etc. Relatively rough neighborhood unfortunately
