What doya think of this tire gauge?

I want to pick up a good tire pressure gauge at Summit and I think this was the cheapest one to mention a calibrated 2 percent accuracy rate:

Digital? Really? Adding a battery and some numbers makes that much difference?

How about just going with the Summit Racing gauge?:

It says plus or minus one percent accuracy.

I'd go with that. Analog relys on your viewing angle, as much as the bourdon tube inside is sensitive to humidity and temperature. Too many variables. At 40psi, 2% is +/- 0.8psi. Not much, but not as accurate as +/- 0.5psi of the digital, and more repeatable. I was a skeptic of digital pressure gages myself, but after buying one and using it often, it really is more accurate.

Oh, and most digital pressure gages use a piezo-resistive sensor, which is basically a strain gage.

The digital one is much more accurate because it uses a pressure
transducer instead of an Bordone tube, and temperature compensates
each use, though I personally can't get used to them.

Just don't mix up the gauges between team cars, they are not calibrated
exactly the same!!!!

Ah, yes, I had forgotten that term. Same thing the ammo companies use to measure chamber pressures these days. In the old days they used purely mechanical measures such as how much a copper or lead nugget was squished through a small hole in the actual chamber, thus "copper units of pressure" (cup) or "lead units of pressure" (lup).

"Home ballistics labs" are now sold which use the piezoelectric strain guages which can be glued to the firearm's outer breech area. The small changes in metal expansion is thus measured.
