haven't done this one yet, if you remove the handle and button assembly completely from the shift lever, will it come out then?

Already removed the handle. The rod is sticking out of the top of the shifter. I can push it down and compress the spring under it.
The pin sticks out of the left side of the slot in the shifter and I see no way to remove the pin. I may have to break the welded piece off and then re-weld it.
