How about an FE out of a Sportage, with a turbo. If you could some how get the "good" heads from somewhere many horsepower might be available. Got to be lighter than that big ole chunk of Detroit Iron.

As cool as that would be, I'm probably gonna end up EFI/turbo on the 302. I'd love to do up another 4 cylinder car, but I'm tired of that sound.

At the very least, I'd build up one of my 4.9L sixes for it, and those are plenty heavy on their own, but I know how to make 500+ from them.
