The bypass hose is a short U shaped hose between the 3/4" dia. pipe running under the exhaust along the block to the thermostat water neck. Right behind the cooling fan if youre standing in front of the car.

Seeing the color of the valve train will give you a clue to the health of your engine. A nice amber/golden brown is ideal with no sludge chillin on the bottom.

You can use dabs of gasket sealer/maker to hold the new VC seal in place. Remember those valve cover bolts only need like 10 INCH pounds of torque. Tighten until they squeeze the little rubber grommets (that come with a new VC gasket) and it should be fine.

      Thank you for the info!!

The car passed inspection today!! I got a good look at it while it was up on the rack and noticed a bad leak coming from the passenger side of the oil pan. Is it more common for the pan gasket to go bad or that main seal (scared!!!!)???

The oil also may be dripping down from the valve cover though, that is the highest point of the oil mess. There is accumulation on the pan, under the pully, above the pully, on the steering.... so yea... its been leaking for a while.
