Hey everyone.. I got a 88 lx (sittin in the lap of luxury, I know) and I also found a '93 escort and snapped that up as well for potential engine swap since the fastiva was listed as not running right and is missing the wire from distributor to coil, and leaking oil from several orifices. But anyway I'm trying to figure out how the fuel system is going to work. The escort uses an in tank high pressure fuel pump and a return fuel system. Fuel flows from the tank pump to the regulator mounted on the fuel rail, and the regulator returns excess fuel to the tank. Now, every carb'd vehicle I've ever had did not use this system. they use one fuel line, a mechanical fuel pump, and no return.
The thing is, from looking at the fastiva, it appears it uses a mechanical fuel pump but also has a return line. Am I mistaken? Its dark out and there is a massive rats nest of vaccuum tubing running everywhere.
I see people suggest that the tank be swapped for a fuel injection tank, along with the pump, but I dont really think thats necessary.... I may need to add a drop in or inline walbro or something, and possibly add a return line, but thats easy stuff. I'm just trying to figure out what I have to work with here.
