what yave you hauled with your festiva?

I don't know how some of you guys tow what you do. I've towed my relatively light utility trailer carrying my dirt bike and it's fine on flat ground but it struggles on the hills. I pretty much have to keep it in 4th gear on the highway and MPG went from 40 to mid 20's.

I got mine from the junkyard. It was on a late 90's early 2000's Dodge minvan. With a little modification it fit great. It's bolted and welded to the rear hooks and I drilled a hole on each side of the subframe and welded a nut in the hole and then went ahead and welded it to the subframe. I'll have to take some pics some day. But it looks similar to this one.

Bought mine from Walmart. Class 4 hitch that I molded and welded into the back bumper. I cut off the original mounting bolts and then welded in 1/2" studs. Braced it with spacers against the body and then stiffened the body inside with plates.

Neanderpaul, over at the Teardrops & Tiny Travel Trailers forum, the kind folks there were talking about the aerodynamic properties of cargo trailers, and I thought of you. Two of the main things that came to mind were the height difference of the trailer to tow vehicle, and the fact that the cargo trailer has no vortex generators.

Vortex generators are becoming increasingly popular with truckers as the VG's stabilize rearward aerodynamic pressure, allowing for a better towing experience. As far as the height difference, I know your fabricator friend could make you a car-top ramp or boat-bottom shaped cowl to match the height of the TV with the height of the CT. The benefit of this is also increased storage space. I bet you'll see at least a few MPG's come back.

I've always wanted to put a tow hitch on my Festiva, but I have a full size truck, so I've never been motivated to do so.
I also don't have a welder or fab skills. Or anything to tow really... I don't own trailers. All I have is a tow bar.
