I ran out of gas on Monday. I know everyone claims close to 10 gallons, but I have NEVER (Not even when I was out of gas on the side of the road, started and ran for 100 yards and it died again) got more than 8.5 gallons into a Festiva.

Yep, judging by more Fuelly app I've had a couple occasions of more than 8.5 the most being 9.25. I've gotten 8.7 twice and 9 once. I've never run out of gas.

well... good thing I went to a gas station around the corner from work then because I ended up putting 8.378 gallons in mine... lol... so the "OE Replacement" isn't quite "OE Replacement" huh? lol

on the topic above (off topic) can anyone confirm anything about the switch of a 93 trans to an 89 car? I'll probably just end up splicing the stuff together, or going back to get whatever plugs are down there in the donor car... but I'd like to know before I start diving in and nothing goes back together correctly...

Let add what I know. I typically was getting quite a bit over 400 miles to a tank and when I filled-up, as the needle hit the red portion of the gas gauge, it would be slightly over 9 gallons. That was on a 93 5 speed. When I kept records, I was getting mid 40s (44 MPG typically) in the summer and low 40s (42 MPG typically) in the winter. It would vary some. The best I ever got was 49.8 when I went from Philly to Ithaca, NY and back. I never broke the elusive 50 MPG mark . (Could have on that trip but I had to drive at 70 MPH to keep from being ran over - Safety First!) Hope this is helpful to you.

I just put 9.7 gallons in my 93 yesterday. It was still running.

My 92 Aqua starts sputtering and running weird at 1/8 a tank or so.

The fuel pump is surrounded by a baffle that does not go all the way up. There is a small pipe at the bottom of the passenger side of the baffle. The baffle and this pipe are why the gauge will read high on long right hand curves and low left hand curves.
Anyway, the small pipe at the bottom of the baffle can get clogged. I've heard this can cause issues with running out of gas before the tank shows empty. Or, if the sender isn't quite right, could show empty.

what do you mean wiring is different on the pedals? if I got the pedal assembly, isn't that all I need? we checked the 88 4 speed carb'ed car at the JY and the pedals looked the same, that's why we stuck with the assembly from the 93

I've recently did an Aspire ATX to MTX (festy tranny).And I would GUESS that the "Carby" Pedal assembly doesnt have the "Idle Control" switch on the clutch pedal.It probably just has the "Safety Switch",and you WILL need the second switch for proper idle control. But it still will run and idle fine if you have the tranny physically in neutral. The "Idle Control" & "Neutral Switch" are wired in "Paralell". These two switchs are not at all connected to the clutch "Safety Switch" or "Start" circuit.

X3 on that for my Aspires & Festy. 8.3 was the most I ever sqeezed in.:thumbs_up: It amazes me that people can get almost 10 gals in. I'm tempted to carry a spare gallon with me and run it dry intentionally and get it to the nearest pump for a fill up.

I don't have a carbeurated motor though, mine is an 89 fuel injected... so how would the 'idle control' affect it then, having the five speed coming from a 93?

plus it's looking like the newer cars are the ones with the larger fuel tanks... while the 88-89 have something like 8.5...

I think the most I have ever dumped in my tank at one time, was a little over 9.2 Gallons, and that was with the car bucking on acceleration because of the lack of fuel. Was literally running on fumes because there was no hiss when I removed the fuel cap.

Mine is a 91'.

I think all our cars can't use the last gallon of the tank, something to do with the pickup not sitting directly on the bottom of the tank. (Which is a good thing, too much gunk and whatnot accumulates on the bottom.) So technically, we can only use 9 Gallons out of our 10 gallon tanks.

Set my personal record today for filling up a tank. 9.356gals!

It was sputtering a bit at pull aways and seemed to be taking a long time to turn over at start up...then I realized I was almost out of gas!

You are very luck... I have run out of gas in a Festiva a few times but have been incredibly lucky in that I have never had to walk to get gas.
I vividly remember one time... My wife an I were driving from Charleston, SC to St. Peters, MO. I has stopped in Marion, Ill to get gas but since I knew it would be a lot less expensive in Mo. I only put in a few gallons. Got into St. Louis and forgot about getting gas. At this time my wife was driving in the left lane on I70 and just as we went under I270, it started to sputter and then died. I told her to get over into the right lane and she said I can't, we're out of gas. Luckily we were going down hill. She finally was able to coast over to the right as traffic cleared and believe it or not we coasted on down the hill, took the Earth City exit and then coasted on the Automart at the next intersection. It was a little up hill going to the gas pumps so I had to push her the last 10 feet so the hose would reach the gas tank. Took quite a fun ribbing from the relative we were visiting about this. So...I'm a penny pincher when it comes to gas. It took 9.9 gallons to fill up.
