i have a feeling that it's a g series in capri and F series in Festiva as they both feel very different when driving and the capri gearing itself feels closer and more solid as a gear change compared to the festiva.

however, i will take photos of the both of them when i get them out of their cars.

this week is engine crane and stand shopping time.

All Festiva's had E series MTX.

You cannot tell from the way they shift. As stated before, that is in the shifter bushings, and how much wear is on them

Correct... festivas have an e series box = piss weak.

Most na cars with b6, or b8 had the F series = moderately strong.

Most turbo/performance versions had the g series.

However. Ive looked under the hood of a NA Capri with a SOHC B6 and it had an F series box.
Recently I had a guy come over who bought some parts off me. He had a NA DOHC Capri, and it had a G series box.
BUT.... I know for sure that his box wasnt the original one as the engine number wasnt on the bell housing, and had been very badly stamped on the block facing the front of the car.

If the engine number starts with UL followed by the last 8 digits of the vin, it should be stamped on the bell housing (this is the case on capris only)
If the engine number starts with B6xxxxxx, it is from a Mazda 323, or ford laser, and the number should be stamped on the same pad as the festiva b3.

That's how you know if either the gearbox or engine have been replaced.

Haha like I said, you aussies are weird, if the engineers put the steering rack in upside down and the steering wheel on the the wrong side to make up for it...I wouldn't put much else past them! I always wondered what transmission they stuck on the b5 in the aussie aspires but I haven't found anyone that knows for certain.

                      FINE .. i'll get photos.

but from what i can feel, its closer with each shift (not as much distance between gears) compared to my festiva gearbox and gears engage a lot more solidly.

They use F boxes from what I've seen so far.

Hahaha still going with the "feel" theory???
Your festiva has an e series.
Your Capri has either an f or a g series.

Of course its gonna feel different to your e series regardless which of the 2 boxes you have.

Load a photo of the box gaz.

Shorter maybe. The Capri has a rather long bonnet
