Agree diesel is definitely the way to go , engines still have a ton of potential to grow also.

Clessie cummins build a 4stroke/2stroke hybrid in the late 30s- early 40s to overcome an issue with carbon build up on Diesel engines used in fishing boats. He only made one prototype before another solution was found but it worked (that's true engineering, he didn't need any electric valves to make it work)

I didn't know that thanks for enlightening me, However it'll be a vast improvement with electronic valves as far as volumetric efficency % goes throughout the entire rpm range and the capability that the motors will have.

I know where a diesel powered Festiva is. It's under powered but does run and drive the last time I talked to the owner.

Pretty sure he took it apart.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

Just watched that electric Youtube video.. that seems like a pretty decent conversion. Besides the battery venting issue, seemed to me he could have fixed elements of his build by doing some of it a bit different. Put the stuff that vents (batteries) under the hood. Move your inverters and charger into a sealed box in the back, if you remove the gas tank, you can put your charging port where the gas nozzle went. Deep cycle marine batteries are more expensive, but they'll last longer for this situation. Airconditioning works, what about a heater? Eseential for Canuckistan. And if you seal up the front underhood space, you could put a small heater in there in order to keep the temp up and not screw the batteries by running cold. Just some thoughts, but all in all.. really like what he did with it.

If it was the one on youtube that was underpowered, that's the only one I've seen. If not, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Nope wrong one. This one hasn't been on YouTube that I know of. I don't think he's even on the internet but he has a couple of very nice hemi powered cars besides the diesel festy.

He was looking for a bigger motor last time we talked.

I'd love a 1.9L vw Diesel in a Festy, if it could be made to fit. You'd get between 60-100mpg and have some awesome power/torque.
