  • totaled the poor little car

Well i had been driving my girlfriends festiva while i was rebuilding the motor in my camaro. I was going down a side road that i go down all the time i hit a bad spot in the road and with bad rear struts is a bad thing and caused the car to bounce off the ground and fish tail into a ditch. When i hit the ditch the car rolled 3 times i was ejected i landed on my feet but i was in the road so i hit hard. i was life flighted to the hospital. Was told i crushed 3 vertebrae and fractured my pelvis. So now i have 2 steel rods in my back and 8 screws.
learned a lesson chage sturts as soon as they go bad don't be lazy.

Looks like your ejection might have saved your life- doesn't appear to be much headroom in there anymore.
Either way I'm glad you're alive and conscious.

Wow, glad you survived. I see auto belts and assume you weren't wearing the lap belt. When my rear struts were bad, I was on the highway at 70 MPH and hit a transition from asphalt to a concrete overpass. It was a little bump but it instantly threw me into the other lane and had to change my underoos. I parked it until the new struts were installed.

Well you got to take care of the car and pay attention to everyone else other than that they are great cars just don't be stubborn and stupid like me.

I have felt the roof and am not impressed by how thin the metal stamping is. The factory used the absolute minimum metal thickness + they probably purchased it at the low end of spec too.
There is a big wave in the steel when to press on it with your hand. That is why I never installed a sun roof and bought that extra support bar from Four Green. I joked about having two Escort dome lights. But now this is no joke. I almost feel like ordering a couple more of the smaller ones. I may even consider fabricating a roll bar.

How do the auto seat belts operate?
When the inertia switch is tripped upon first impact and grounds the seat belt module under the seats, do the seat belts begin retracting immediately or does the computer delay their opening?

Does the lap belt have to be unbuckled before the shoulder belt motors engage?
If you open the door, but keep the lap belt buckled, do the shoulder belts open?

I am wondering why they say the lap belt must always be buckled when using a passive restraint system.
