well i think maybe cops just dont like people that drive festivas. i got stopped in the parking lot of the chiropractor lights blazing, hell i was in a parking stall facing the building where was i gonna go. then he said he had trouble catching me..lol why his police car must be underpowered huh. but i wasnt speeding. the reason he pulled me over was for the light blue tinted license plate cover on the rear plate. ive had a few other times like that, and never for a moving violation. i have a good driving record and im not young.. but it still happens.

that cop just wanted to make trouble for ya plain and simple. to bad some are like that.

I have gotten lucky so far i guess, i'm almost 18 and have not been pulled over yet. i don't know how they know when your muffler is too loud but mine sure aint quiet tints too dark for the law too. and ppl belive me if i tell them i'm 13. i think cops usually don't pay that much attn to a festiva tho, at least not for moving violations .. lol.

So what is the violation /fine for a Novice that has no magnet on the car ?

The magnets are part of the graduated licensing program that the provincial government and ICBC (insurance company) put into effect a few years ago:

Minimum 16 years old: You get a red magnet, can only drive with someone over 25. The magnet is refered to as the L, as it is a big red magnet with an L. We like to refer to it as the LOSER sticker. This stage of the program lasts for 1 year and must be completed before you can move on to the Novice (N) stage.

Minimum 17 years old: You get a green magnet, can drive by yourself but are restricted to one non-family member as a passenger. This N stage lasts for 2 years, regardless of how old you are when you start. What is ridiculous, is that you are a minimum of 19 before you are eligible to get your full license. Having only 1 passenger can be a real pain in the ass too.

If you fail to have your magnet, you get knocked with 2 demerit points (4 points results in starting the N process over again, for the full 2 years again) Also, there is a small fine, like a hundred bucks. What really grinds me, is if my N gets lost or stolen, which it has, I HAVE to pay 5 bucks to get another one. Just another stupid government initiative IMO. Still, apparently the crash rate among youth has spiraled almost 30 % since the changes in the system. Whatever.

he never said the tinted cover was illegal though. or even gave me a ticket.

i was in such a bad mood that day i felt like just going back and ripping the thing off and saying, ok now ya happy kojac  if they are illegal they shouldnt sell em, but i sure never bought another one even though i like the looks of them. i had to laugh when he said he had a hard time catching me, not like i have a b6t or anything... i felt like saying well einstein, thats cuz traffic on the 2 lane road prohibited you from catching me not cuz of my blazing speed.

^^ We have very similar laws here , 16-18 years old ,limits how many other passengers , curfew thru the week and on the week end , also limited to moving violations 2 in 24 months and you lose your lic. repeat offender and you lose them till you are 21.
I know the State is always coming up with new stuff ,it is hard to keep up with it .

I live near a small town and the cops mostly just harass us instead of going down in the ghetto and harassing the drug dealers. I had one friend pepper sprayed. He was reaching to unlatch his seat belt cause they asked him to get out of his car. Then they said that he was resisting arrest because he was trying to wipe his eyes. Another friend got a ticket for "driving in a manner to cause excessive noise". He lives in Virginia so they couldn't give him a fix-it ticket.

I think cops mostly ignore festivas because I haven't been pulled in mine yet. My only ticket was for doing a burnout in OC in a friends car.

i got pulled over one time for a headlight being out, it had burnt out about 2 hours before i got pulled at around 11, the cop started to tell me how long it had been burnt out for, i knew he just wanted to make sure everything was legal

here we have a graduated license system, starting with a G1 (begginers) where you need someone who has there full license (G) and with 4 years driving experience, a G2 is where you can drive on your own, with some restrictions like # of passengers and the time of night etc.

Cops are always going to focus on younger males, right or wrong. Statistically, young males cause most of society's visible violence and "disorder" problems (while it's the rich executive white collar crooks who cause most of the invisible damage that really hurt others!).

When I was a driving instructor, I explained this to my students. I also told them that by following the laws, they could "make the cops work for it."

I'm 46 now, but I still prefer a low profile because it attracts much less attention. I was stopped for speeding on I-70 in Columbus a couple years ago by a Columbus PD officer. He was polite and just gave me a warning. He knew I had a CCW permit too, but I had no gun on me at the time. I was impressed.

When stopped, don't argue. Be polite. If you think you were unfairly treated, no matter what your age, follow it up later with a complaint to that department. If a certain cop is garnering a lot of complaints of a certain nature, then the department might be compelled to do something about it. Maybe not. At least do your part.

Younger folks, especially males, cause a lot of problems, both criminal and "accidental." That's one reason your car insurance is high and the cops watch for you. No, it isn't fair to those of you who don't cause (too many) problems. Just understand it and just deal with it.

Criminologist Gary Kleck has observed that the same folks who commit violent crimes and victimize others are also "at risk" for all types of "accidents" and other problems. They are irresponsible, immature and quick to have a temper, etc. The same scrotes who pack weapons and threaten others are also the ones who break a lot of traffic (and other) laws. Those who break major laws usually break the smaller ones, and the cops know it. Statistically, someone who commits several moving violations at once in front of a cop is likely to have other "issues" of a more "interesting" nature. That's why you want to be "nice and easy" if you are stopped.

Some day you'll get to be an old fart (if you survive!) before you know it!

Then you'll have other problems to complain about!

certainly true enough. i prefer a low profile also. must be that age we get to huh..haha teens are teens no matter what generation.

what was the first car you ever owned? i had a 65 mustang fastback, jacked up rear end. n-50 rear tires, deep dish cragers, it was very nice. but i never had any trouble with cops. now i get my mighty festiva, and i been stopped more than back then. and never for a moving violation. kinda funny.

in the past when stopped for speeding, i knew it he knew it, not much to say anyway. but when stopped for some trivial non moving violation is when i tend to grind my teeth. im always civil, they got the gun and the power, and know it...lol i was a cop for several years in the kc metro area, so ive seen all kinds.
