  • MPG Cam Results

Just got my DAE max mpg cam in.

I'm using solid lifter rockers with it but in an EFI Festy. I have 14" wheels with 165/60s kept at 40psi at all times.
Besides the cam the only MPG minded things on my car are an upper grill block and ricer style rear hood prop.

Previous MPG before the cam is 43.

Results and further tweaking to follow.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

Best of luck to you (not that luck is what's called for, but still....). Curious to see if the ECU gives you issues like I had, if you need to change to a heated O2 sensor, etc.

I plan on a drive tmw to check out the data being sent to the ECU from the wideband, to see if they play nice together.

Oh, didn't think to mention that. I do have a heated O2 already, though so far it hasn't done anything positive or negative.

Yeah, I can't wait to see what the ECU does too. Hopefully the old system is dumb enough to not care.

Soooo, I have numbers, but the temperature has dropped a lot since the cam was installed. I'd take that into consideration.

Sadly it went down to 40mpg over 323 miles. Same station. Same pump. As accurate as I can get. BUT, it's something I could totally see happening just from the weather change. Still IMHO the best case scenario here is that it did absolutely nothing for fuel economy stock for stock. I'm pretty sure I've decided it has added some on the bottom end and that the top is still the same as stock.

Now, to really see what it can do(as stated in Matt's thread about the cam) I will start adjusting things after a couple more tanks to be sure of where I am. First up is a timing advance. I'll push it as far as is comfortable on regular fuel. Not upping the octane or messing with an FPR yet, if at all.

I'll post a definite average number before I mess with anything.

Besides the temp, we have probably all gone to winter gas by now, which in my experience gives ~10% worse mileage. So unfortunately it's gonna be an apples-and-oranges situation until spring. But definitely keep experimenting.

Well that's interesting. True too on the weather thing. Just bad timing on my part. I had the cam for a bit before I got the perfect combo of no rain, daylight, and sleep+free time. And then winter came. That's how it goes.

So yeah, it can't be accurate unless I were to put the stock cam back in now after I get a real average. Which might just happen. Never know.

Well continue to do your thing. I have the feeling this cam is designed to do its thing the hotter everything is.

Do boat marinas swap to winter mix as well? I know they are supposed to offer 100% pure gas since ethanol doesn't play well with 2 cycle oil. What about the 101 race gas that some stations offer? I'm just wondering if there's an alternate source for non-winter mix gas in cold weather.

I know that in SC, the marinas sell 100% non-eth gas.

I wouldn't really know where to find a marina around here. I can get to an airport, but even that's about an hour drive one way. I'd have to buy a drum of the stuff to make it worth it. Don't think I'm up for that.

The only "big" one at all is about 45 minutes away. Still too far to make it worth it.

EDIT: Found another thing to play with. Details when I start doing it. It'll probably be controversial.
