Are you talking about non-tach speedo cables for tach clusters?
It should be just long enough if you re-route it around the right side of the column support. I was told tach cluster speedo cables are about an inch longer.
I attach the speedo clip to the back of the cluster first, then pull the cluster gently into position, then install the speedo gear into the transmission.

I've not had any issues installing tach clusters in a non-tach cluster car. As long as the cable is re-routed properly I've been able to hook things up as required.

Did you insert the medal piece at the end of your cable correctly in the tranny speed sensor, its kind of like a key it goes in a certain way.

If by wiggling you mean wiggling between , for example, 40 and 45 when you are driving 43 recheck to make sure there are no super sharp bends in the Speedo cable routing and also it wouldn't hurt to lube the inner cable.

yup I had a fun time with the speedo cable in the transmission, but it's in the tranny....

no bends in the cable.... just drove it. The speedo makes lots of noise and wiggles less at higher speeds now.... yes, that is exactly what it's doing when it wiggles, but only that much when i'm going under 35, then it becomes more like 39-41 when i'm going 40... oh, I did lube the cable but not much

If anyone ever wants a slightly longer cable, if I recall Aspire units are 2-3 inches more and are entirely compatible with Festy. Jumpy speedo can be related to the inner mechanism of the speedo itself in which case you'll need to try out a different one. A replacement speedo solved my problem one time. Often times though the cable is merely pinched or needs lubrication or is not fully engaged at either end. I did have a situation where the nylon gear in the tranny had split and this was causing a jump.
It's nice when you have a pile of parts on hand to swap when trying to figure out ornery things like this.

Mine wiggled or jumped and it turned out to be the cable. it was bent slightly. I replaced it & it works fine now.

Do a drill test on it. Get a square bit to fit in behind where the speed cable goes and run the drill. If the needle wiggles\bounces, it's in the cluster, if not, it's the speed cable.
