I've had my festiva for about a month. Love it so far. But through this site and others I have seen lots of engine swaps. I have an 89 automatic and it is still running strong on its original engine. The odom says 248k. I hear they don't last long. I'm about to do a tune up in the next few days. Any thoughts? Should I consider a engine swap or do you think it will last a while longer? The previous owner had it 11 years and loved it and seems to have tooken care of it.

Don't last long? You must be thinking of Geo Metros.
It is routine for these engine to easily hit 300k miles, and really well taken car of ones have been known to hit 400k miles.1991 Ford Festiva BP (Full Aspire/Rio Swap) (337k Miles) (Around 95k Engine)
2002 Chevy Cavalier LS Sport 2.2L DOHC Ecotec (Threw a Rod)
1998 Chevy Monte Carlo LS 3.1 V6 (225k miles) Best MPG = 28

And many have gone past 500k. Mazda b series engines are very reliable and durable-Greg

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
If you're really worried, keep your eyes open for a nice price on a good used engine. Then buy it, prep it, and keep it on hand.
Problem solved, whether there is a problem or not!
Same goes for any other parts...if you see a good price, buy them. Better yet, buy a parts car!

Don't worry. I get all the Festivas that are about to go bang.
Nearly everyone I've ever talked to has given good feedback about these engines, if they've had one.Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.
