  • Auto Tranny Swaps

Is it possible to swap in the 4-speed auto tranny from a 323 or Protege? Is there room, what mounts would we use, and what axles (considering both axle length and spline count)?

I'm thinking it would be best to swap in the motor from the same car, and of course the computer. And into a 3-speed auto Festy for simplicity. Get that extra gear for the hwy.

Maybe this might help answer some of the questions.
    Hope it helps.

it really is a piece of crap. scrapped 2 tracers because of trans failure. did have one in a 1.8 escort that took a beating but the lack of 2nd gear on the selector really killed performance. seemed designed to shift into OD and stay there no matter what.

My preference is the lowest low gear possible, as in super granny gear, the highest overdrive 4th, the highest stall convertor that still has lock up. In other cars that is usually a police option transmission. Could something really cool be imported from a country that used any b block mazdas, nissans, ford and GM motors that use that bellhousing bolt pattern and a 10 inch convertor.
