What oil do you use?

AHhhhh the beauty of Mazda! B3, B4, B5, B6, BP, Z5, ALL use the same filter! Mazda B6Y1-14-302A, Ford Motorcraft E9GZ-6731-A (FL-816), Wix 51358.
The Mazda filter costs me $12+ at the dealer, the Motorcraft I get online, 2cases shipped for just over $5 a filter, but have seen them at some Walmart stores, the Wix costs me $8+ from my local Merle's

All of these filters are proven in hard running in dirty/dusty conditions for street motors and race engines built to factory tolerances. change every 3 months, 3000 miles under those conditions.
This is what we have found in the last 25 years, but have not tested EVERY filter made. As Sketchman points out, these engines survive in spite of us!

Oh here might be a nice tip. I also use motorcraft filters, but I get them cheap locally whenever.

You can get a nipple adapter on eBay and then the FL-400s from the Escorts will work.

I keep lousing my posts !!! I get redirected, but my post doesn't come back up !! Frustrating !!!

I use Valvoline synthetic, but I blend 50/50 5W-30 with 10W-30. This gives me the best compromise between strong low end, 10w-30 and a fast rev, 5w-30. I add 4oz of STP and it really hauls.

After these articles, will go to Mobile 1 5w-30 for a faster rap-up. My experience with Mobile 1 shows it does not provide a strong low end, but raps in a flash. Will always add STP, 4oz. Change every 3000 miles. Mazda filter only!!! I think I burned up my Mazda 6 because of a cheap oil change filter. Bottom end went out at high revs. Will post my "Butt Feel" impressions. No dyno........No wideband.

But the way...Thanks for all the information on oil filters. I know many users run their cars for economy and use the least expensive products. This is natural since our cars are very old and in many cases run down, I've seen some real basket cases from time to time in fact mine started out that way. But my Grandfather always said "when in doubt, go first class..it always pays off in the end". Harder to do these days but the advice still holds...get the best products and they last the longest.

What Oil

Looked on a master cross reference for the FL-816 FORD filter and see the WIX listed as 51365 vs 51358. They recommend the 51365 filter. Was there a typo in our listings?? Also, when I go online everyone says that the FL-816 will not fit the Festiva. I have the 1992 service manual from FORD and on the back cover it specifically lists the FL-816 filter as the right one. May be the filter capacity is the issue. Does the FL-816 hold more oil ??

The service manual is correct. Don't worry about how much oil the filter holds, much more important how the guts of the filter match the engine requirements!
I'm not sure of the Wix cross reference...
