Welding questions - lower radiator core support

#RACECAR our lemon s racer is welded in, with gussets. We just trimmed a piece of angle to fit, the plug welded it under existing core support. Ours is very scappy looking. But funtional.

When rebuilding the lower core support, is there any reason why nobody really is permanently welding them in? What's the purpose of bolt-on removable crossmembers?
For easy replacement in direct center accidents or ?

Not for accidents, but Engine/Tranny Maintence Removal etc
