I've been unimpressed by low dollar Kumho tires lately. I've seen several sets come apart internally with only moderate use.

I will be going to the federal 595 tire soon on OverKILL. I hope they are good tires because this car has a bit of power behind it and i dont want to buy nito tires very often.
1990 (LUCIFER 2.0) fully built BP+T with E153, Fueltech FT500, traction control with hopes of 600hp (i drank to much of the KOOL-AID)
1990 OverKILL BP+T, evo ecu system, coilovers, aspire brakes, full advanced suspension, Garrett! The Autocross toy!
      1989 (BRITSTIVA 1.0) B6T and sold
      19?? 150$ burnout car SOLD
      1991 (STRESS RELIEF)SOLD

I just went back to my build thread and found it. Hope the link works.

I have been unimpressed with the only kumhos i have had as well, i wont be using them even though they have the highest load rating of the three iirc.

That's a 165/55. Maybe you were referring to an earlier post? I think Ecstas are not low-end tires. V-rated, however only an A for traction, not AA. I've always had good luck with Kumho Solus.

Oops, i missed that we were talking about 155's. Sorry.
165 was the stock width of these cars though. Do you want 155's for less rolling resistance or something?

That Kumho 14 165 155 ratio sidewall has a short sidewall and so an overall diameter a full inch less than my 13 155 80 ratio tires on the aspire.

So for $10 plus a tire more, you're reducing your gear sizes- not bad in town but less mpg on the road or with an AT especially,

and your tire will go flat sooner if you have a slow leak out in a blizzard someday with the flu. No fahren, fahren fahren off der Autobahn.

I can't say for sure but I'll bet a similar 13 and tire weigh no more or maybe less than a similar 14 rim and tire, and you can get a more narrow tire with smaller rims..

Just bought some 165 80 13 tires for the front of my Accent, for the same style Honda wheels-

and that wider than 155 in back because it's a 1.6 motor and heavier car, by 200 pounds over Aspire. A huge tire overall diameter wise, but the Accent 5th gear is just a little revvy for my liking, and they went to 14 inch in later years . 14 inch Escort wheels on the back pictured below with 155 width tires I got dirt cheap, and the original steel fronts, 175 mm, so the stock 70 ratio is huge

I think you can see the diameter of the 13" front wheels is slightly more than the back 14's These cars are also 4 x 100 if you've bought stuff for an Aspire and escort alloys will bolt right up.

No I'm happy with my 165 V-rated AA Economists! Just joining in the conversation because I didn't know 155s like this existed. IMO the V-rated 165s are the better tire overall, esp. on the rear where tire wear is less anyway. I could see having Vs on the rear and Hs on the front (for better wear), just to help ensure that the rear didn't slide out on me. This would be for a DD application, not super-sporty. Charlie will probably chime in with why that's a bad idea.....

And harpon seriously? With the whole low profile tires going flat easier thing? Seriously?

You'd have two different tires that's what.

Yeah, I could see that....but with Hs on front and Vs on the rear, they might all wear out about the same time.

I wouldn't worry about that so much a set of 400 wear tires and I'd imagine they'd last almost forever lol

Speed and wear ratings don't necessarily coincide.

These tires last so long on these cars (With a good alignment and normal driving habits) that they dry rot before they wear out. My first set of federals lasted over 40k miles and then I took them to the track and destroyed them in 400 miles. Lol.

                                Good bye old friends.
