Remember you're dealing with a choke now- so de-gunk the outside as well as the inside and make sure the choke is working correctly. Yeah- the "fussy-ble" links are generally a problem and usually need re=working and/or replace with PAL cartridge fuses. Put some new wires on in the tuneup, or wrap them with electrical tape until you do to prevent cross arcing.

Very nice! I tried to turn it over again and have no power at all, nothing inside and no head or tails ad id the battery was dissconected...put a tester to the battery and it was at13.5 volts so im sure that's not the issue. Also the cables looked ok and everything was tight. Going to rework the fuses links to see if that helps.

It's probably the main fuse link.
I've had them look good but be burnt inside the cover.

Could be a Bad Ground, the grounding points on these cars go bad sometimes due to Rust and Corrosion. I would recommend checking the Body grounds and possible cleaning them up as well as checking the actual connections for the fusible links. Even our FL cars get sketchy grounds sometimes... I know I have felt a tingle in my chest while leaning on the Throttle body before and my brother said he got shocked while taking rear seats out once lol

That sounds good ill add in a fuse link with a 40 amp after it stops raining. Where are grounds I should be checking? I have found two so far in the engine compartment and cleaned them up. There is very little rust or corrosion being a pnw car.

If you are not getting power anywhere then it would be the one that connects the Battery to the Body.

Update, with some questions? Replaced fuel pump and fuel lines. The car starts up without help now. The issue comes after warmup before the car gets warm the idle is high then kicks down like it should, then the idle starts going up then down and the car dies. Ive checked all the vacume lines, havnt adjusted carb. Any suggestions?

Idle circuit is likely clogged. Start with fresh fuel and if you can, pull directly from a can of seafoam into the bowl and let it soak overnight.

Won't start cold... Are you pumping the throttle twice before cranking?

Did you replace the little piece of hose between the hard fuel line and the fuel filter?
They are known to collapse under negative pressure after 29 years.

You should consider replacing the factory feedback carb with an Escort carb.

My Festiva starts fine in cold weather since I changed my carb.

My main festiva bit the dust, had low compression and oil in the intake. Over the last week ive swapped all the fuel injection parts over to the 88 lx. I finished up yesterday. Now I cannot get the car to start and both were running before the swap. It tried to start for a breif moment then died and i tested and cranked, until battery went dead. Ive been talking to another member who suggested that I check the distributer and it seems to be able to only go in one way. Is there anything else i should be checking for? im without a car and ive got to get the car going to get back and forth to work...its a four hour walk back and forth.
