  • Cup holder prototype...what ya think?

I made this with my 3d printer. Its green because thats the color filament I had on at the time and it is just a first trial.
I want to make one red for my red festiva and a white one for the white festiva. I designed it on tinkercad (a real basic design program). It needs some tweaking but turned out pretty good for a first off. You have to pull the ashtray out some when you want to place a cup in it to avoid the radio but other than that it is solid. All I had to do is remove the two screws holding the ashtray face plate on and screw it into the plastic one I made. Any other ideas or other places to put a cup holder are welcome but this seems to be a pretty good idea for a sturdy holder.

That's a nifty idea! Which cups did you test it with? It looks like it may fit a polar pop or other Styrofoam cups with a lip on them.

Thats the cool thing I can make it to fit whatever size cups I want. I just made it to accept the fast food drinks that I will use it for.

What does that mean? How much did it cost me to make? Takes 3.5 hours to print one.

Or rather, how much would you sell them for?

I don't know. What do you think would be a fair price? I still want to tweak the design some to fit better anyway. I need to buy some more filament too, different color that is. I'm low on white and red, have plenty of black.

I'm not familiar with how much 3D printing materials cost so please forgive me if my assessment is off, but I'd be willing to pay between $10-12 for one.

That's pretty slick. This technology is crazy. Last week I watched a video where now they have direct metal printers. Crazy!

Bry Ewan from Stratasys Direct Manufacturing stops by the garage to show Jay how their new technology can bypass the plastic mold process of 3D printing and ...

I think $10 sounds fair but you would have to pay for shipping. I didn't plan on selling these but if people want them, cool. What I love is that you can choose whatever color and whatever you want to write on them. Thats the fun of these 3D printers, your can pretty much make anything within your imagination and your design skills (which I don't have much of). I work 2nd shift so I gotta go.

Could you make it with some type of strap on the bottom? that way cans wouldn't fall out of it.
