The 165/70-12 is factory for the alloy wheels (LX and GL).

But that's awesome sauce!!! My usual go to for tires (tires-easy) stopped carrying the sizes we need.

A lot of those sizes have even cheaper options than the Achilles that most run. I didn't look at all of them but I did see some that were under $30 a tire. I don't what kind of Quality to expect at that price but they might work well for someone on a budget.

I bought some 12" tires a couple years ago from tire-easy, but I can't recall the name. They were made in an Eastern European country. When mounted and spinning on the tire balancer, they looked like an egg. I did eventually get a refund, but be careful on the real cheap tires.

I bought a set of 155/60-13 Sunny tires a couple years ago and they shake the car badly. I won't buy another set of those.

I've bought a set of 175/50-13 Nankang AS-1 tires and they also shook the car. 1 other member had the same issue with this size and brand of tire.

I've bought several sets of 165/55-14 Achilles Economist tires and I've been very very happy with them.

I've bought 3 sets of Federal Formoza FZ1 tires in 165/50-15 and have had good luck with them. This size is a little stiff, but they wear well and get decent traction.

Duke, thanks for doing the research and posting this. Hopefully people write in with impressions of each size and brand.

I posted a few weeks ago in another thread about the Yokohama tires at Amazon, but it looks they no longer carry them.

i'm debating between maaxis in 155/80/12 vs yohohama 165/70/12 - anyone have experience with either or both? don't care about racing or speed - just reliability/quality and something that won't delaminate and destroy my wheel wells

Go with the 165s, they last longer and are more likely to be truly round. Plus they'll feel better in turns.

I just entered an order for 4 of the Y372's (Tire Size: P165/70R-12) from Simple Tire and it accepted the order at a price of $357.92 shipped to my home address. So they apparently have a source for them.

If you have a Local Tire Chain Store near you they give you an option of shipping there for a cheaper price. I think I saved like $25 on shipping that way. They are also offering Free Shipping on certain more expensive tires. I know I looked at one and the Price came out almost the same for better tires.

That's good to know.. Thanks. I didn't actually go through with entering the order because I currently have good tires on all 3 Festivas and also have 3 almost new 145 Yokohamas on steel wheels. I do want to get a set of the 165 Yokohamas before they become extinct though so I can put them on Rosie when I give her to my grandson in about 18 months.

Yokohama 145/80 r12 is known to be the best 145 width tire. It would stand to reason that the 165 is very good as well. Also the 165 is stock size and the 155 is 3% larger. That doesnt bother some people, bothers others.
