Have you checked your alignment at all? Specifically the front.
I have not personally checked my alignment because I have to get my tires put on again and I had that done at sears, they said they would put my tires on again for free and they give free alignments within 6000 miles (I just had it done)

Here's a pic of the inside of my drum, I tried hammering the studs but I will try a c clamp next

Those are pressed in but they look newer than the drum themselves. Why are you taking them out?

that is a good point.. just swap the drum over to the new beam. hopefully your hammering hasn't messed up the threads

and.. you need to take off the other drums anyway cuz you need to check the bearings and make sure they're okay. I bought a drivers spindle a while back without looking and I checked it the other day and the spindle is absolutely trashed.

I think you can get new studs from the store, too btw.. like auto zone, etc. They're... m12-1.5 right? $1.99 says in stock in C-ville but double check on the threads. I gotta run some errands.

I tried both of your suggestions.
I can't put my old drum on the new hub because it wont go on all the way on.
Both stores I went to had different studs and said mine might be aftermarket but i dont think soo

pics to show both of what I mean

^This is the one that came off my festiva. the inner ring thing is level with the surrounding ring while the new one is a little lower.

Kinda hard to see it but the outer most ring thing on the inner part is not level like the other one is.
            as for the studs...

^ The ones the shops had

            ^ The ones I have

Both ways are giving my trouble and I want to drive my car to work tonight! haha

That brownish ring is just a seal. It keeps your grease in and keeps the brake dust out.

This is what I had in mind:

Your new drum might be a little thicker and you might need to reset your parking brake lock adjuster. As the drum wears, the adjuster keeps tightening up so that your pads are where they need to be all the time. Before you mess with the adjuster, pull the adjuster tab on the back of the backing plate towards the outside of the car (the opposite of the cable pulling it taught) and see if that frees up a touch of tension on the brakes on each side.

look how shiny that bottom drum is.. I don't see much of a lip and I'd bet that's fairly new.

I got those studs today, I think I might need longer ones or something. For some reason I can only screw one all the way through, the other ones cross thread or get stuck partially through.
I might just drive my gf's gti at this autox and focus on fully restoring my car afterwards. This will be my punishment for driving like a maniac, maybe I will finally learn my lesson haha.
You never did say, will you be at this even Walth?

Andrew, I tagged a C-Rogers on a photo yesterday.. did I get the right one? Nice meeting y'all and maybe be at the next one in Verona

post up your progress on your festy, too.. and hey, are you using the stock steering rack? Trey just gave me an idea for using a smaller steering wheel and that might be an idea for you vs swapping racks.

Wheres the photo lol, and yeah man it was nice to meet you. I see you got a 48 sec run, beat me by 5 seconds LOL. Hopefully I will be driving my own car next time.

Yes I am using the stock steering rack. A smaller steering wheel sounds like a good idea!
As for progress on my car... I have all the parts to get it up and running, just facing silly problems like having trouble putting the wheel bearing back in. I got my wheel studs in the mail so hopefully now I will get it on the road this week! sometimes I work on my car and just feel dumb afterwards.

yeah but you guys made good improvements.. I hung out at 48-49 seconds for all 4 runs (remember I killed 3 cones on the third run). Dan gave me some good feedback today about "shuffle steering" and I highly recommend you read up on it and practice NOT doing it asap That way you'll have another advantage in August if you can run then. Same to CR

when I drove with the manual rack, I was steering so fast back and forth that I almost lost control a few times. It was crazy. If you find a smaller wheel you can use just for track days, I think that'd be the ticket.

my biggest improvement will be getting my car back haha. I definitely have to get better at not shuffle steering, thanks for the reminder.

has anyone ever had trouble with rear wheel bearings? I put my drum on and I cannot seem to get the bearing and washer far enough on to screw the spindle nut on. even with the drum off they don't go far enough. Such a silly thing to get stuck on. will post pics if I'm still having trouble tomorrow

That is weird. Wipe the spindle clean and then post a pic. I'm intrigued.

Not very clean, but I already had this picture taken. I can't get the washer or bearing farther than that. I have the drum off just to show how far they go. I have them in the right order right? I have two different washers/bearings and both with only go this far and get stuck at the notch.
More grease? tighten it on with the nut? tried both those things and more and I figured I'm thinking too hard on this simple silly thing. Just trying to get the wheel on so I can push my car into the garage at this point.

                                Haha that's backwards buddy.

There's a bearing inside the drum and then this is the outer bearing. Take the washer off and then the bearing will go in and then the washer and then the nut and castle and cotter.
