I found the leak, it couldnt be much more obvious haha.
So i have done about 10 radiator flushes by now and used two bottles of flush and clean. Every time it seems to come out just as dirty, is this normal? I put in clear distilled water and it comes out dirty as mud. I am flushing the overflow each time as well.92 Festiva L - bp & hydro g, advanced coilovers, aspire brake swapped

When i did mine i removed the heater core and rad and flushed them both with muratic acid, then nutralized with baking soda and water. Then flushed with clean water. First flush with the acid got 80% out, second time hardly got anything and the baking soda and water flushes were clear.
There are writeups on here about using the cascade cleaner to flush. I would try that instead. Problem with a regular flush is that water only comes out the upper or lower rad hose. Your block is still half full. You need to remove the block heater or water pump to actually get it all out.
Each time you flush and drain your block is still half full of dirty water...

That's good to know and explains a lot. But still I have done at least 10 flushes now and every time its the same brown color! I would expect it to at least get a little bit better.
I will look into removing one of those things and the cascade cleaner flush
edit: would it be bad to turn the car on with the drain plug out to attempt to get the water out of the block?Last edited by fudge; 10-13-2017, 05:31 PM.92 Festiva L - bp & hydro g, advanced coilovers, aspire brake swapped

I do a ghetto flush where I pull the hose off the back of the bypass hard line by the disty (from the heater core) and turn it on. Then dump distilled water in until clear but you can only do it for a minute. Not sure on the bp setup.

I undo the heater hose to the bypass hose under the disty and shove it down behind the engine (so the water goes through the head>heater core>hose>ground)
Turn it on and start pouring distilled water in cuz you can’t keep up. Only do it for a minute or until clear and cut it off.

Me or Fudge? I don't, you can easily pop the top hose loose and drain that little bit and you don't want it to get that hot with my method.

I was not removing the thermostat when flushing. looks like I just did a bunch of radiator flushes thinking that would flush out the whole system. I will have to do it properly sometime. Maybe I will try the ghetto way Chris haha.
Yeah the vacuum caps were at advance auto for 2 bucks in a pack of like 5. it's doing the trick so far
Autocross this weekend was fun, didn't do very well but I learned a lot! I also want new tires because my car was getting loose! I think sometime between now and spring I am going to invest in light 13-14 wheels with performance tires.92 Festiva L - bp & hydro g, advanced coilovers, aspire brake swapped

So yesterday my car wouldnt start. This happened a couple times where my car wasnt starting but after a few tries it would start and then I didnt think too much about it. Now its doing the same thing but doesnt ever start.
I thought it was the battery so I had it tested and it tested good.
No head lights, no click when I try to start it, but the dash lights come on (like the check engine, seatbelt, handbrake lights)
I'm thinking it's something to do with my battery connection. I'm no expert, but I know it could be a handful of things. I know you guys cant solve my problem for me but maybe someone has had a similar issue before.
Also is it bad to flush the cooling system with hose water?92 Festiva L - bp & hydro g, advanced coilovers, aspire brake swapped

Yeah if you flush with tap water (mineralized) it’ll be just as brown and rusty as it is now. Distilled is clean of minerals and won’t rust the water jacket.

Sounds like a bad connection. I put brand new terminals on my brothers car and a few days later it did the same thing. Ended up being corrosion where the cable bolted to the terminal. I to clean it off and turn the clamp upside down so that it would hold the cable tighter."The White Turd" 1993 Festiva 144k miles. (Winner of FOTM November 2016)
