I don't consider those to be cold winter temps. In those conditions, the Festiva heater does fine. At -30 F or colder, Festivas don't do very well, even with a new OEM thermostat and the front end covered with cardboard. I used to live an hour north of Grand Forks ND, while I was attending school in Grand Forks. On really cold days, the temp gage never got up to normal even with a 20-30 minute idle warmup and 60 miles of interstate driving, and the cabin temp never gets very warm.

I can't understand why anyone would live in a place where the climate gets to negative anything. 16 degrees is to cold. You guys need to give up on the regions that just can't cut it for more heat.--Jeremie

Yeah but how hot/humid does it get down south during the summer.

Right on. It's like anything, if that's all you know, it's not a big deal. I was born and raised in ND, so cold winters are just a way of life. Summers are beautiful(but short). We get hot, but there is little humidity. Plus there is little to no crime, and there is no such thing as "rush hour" or "traffic jams" anywhere in North Dakota. Just wide open spaces. Everyplace has its advantages and disadvantages.

In my B6/ATX I was getting no heat at all until I remembered my thermoswitch was bad and I had disconnected it so the fan would run all the time in summer. Once I reconnected it the fan stopped and I got heat.

                            However, the heat ain't great.

Next I'll try the cardboard trick to see if it helps more.

Lilred, as for the doors pulling away at the top on the highway, lower the window and gently bend the top of the door frame in a bit. That should help some.

I recently locked my keys in and the cops had new tools which parted the door frame/body gap. So I have to redo my bending. :?

Lately I've been suspecting the heater core as the source of the bad heat problem, but I haven't checked it out yet. Has anyone looked into that possibility? Has anyone had to change their heater core?

I also think that cold air is leaking in from the fresh air intake, either through a bad duct connection, or a bad seal on the intake port. I'm not sure how easy it will be to fix the seal. It doesn't look serviceable from the outside. I took off the cover from the top passenger corner of the firewall and saw where the air comes in. It's a raised rectangular port and there's rust surrounding it.
