  • Converting to true track car

Not drag strip but actual road track and autocross. If all goes well with the trade offer i have now for the porsche, I will be turning the festiva into a track car. Its going to be about a year or so build. Going to make a full custom suspension including a independent rear end, custom front end with custom sway bars, going to strip out the interior and creat a custom dash. areo dynamic work is going to be done with lowering the car, custom under body work, front bumper and rear bumper modification work, flared fenders for a wider tire, maybe a oem factory wing, fuel cell.

Should be a fun project but and not worth it at all. I am going to try to keep the project at minimum cost but building most of my parts (which i would have to do any ways). I am going to see what i can do for brakes, seeing if a brake company can make some thing or if i have to buy a kit off of another car and build brackets (not to hard really..) The rear end will be the hardest part because i am going to build a pure independent rear end so a lot of fab work and a lot of welding, but imagine a festiva that actually handles!!

I of coarse will not fall into any category for SCCA or pretty much any racing group but I will be able to compete to get my SCCA race license and still be able to do track days, DE days, and auto crosses.

    Any thoughts?

Keep in mind that i am not looking to spend more than 1000$... Just gotta find a way to get bigger performance brakes for cheap... i was thinking gt3 big reds  ... ok not really

Every car I have owned has had a turbo in it, until I bought this latest festiva.. I plan to fix that though.

Sounds awesome. You should rally it, too. I bet a B6T festy with complete independant suspension would be very competitive in open 2WD class.

Let me know where you find tires that don't take up most of that $1000.00 budget...

Sounds like about what I'm trying to do with the EGT rear suspension swap, RX7 brakes etc. I probably won't do my own dash and I would like to retain the gas tank.

I also don't really have any racing class in mind, just want something for autocrossing (even if I have to run DM) and the ocassional track day.

      Keep us updated.

well like i said i wont fall into any classes for actually competion, but i need 10 DE/Track days to get my scca license , and nothing says im not allowed to go to DE/Track days after that

As for tires i will probably be running a hankook 245/45/13 and get 13x8 rota rb's. They are fairly cheap and i dont need to go with a full slick either.

EDIT: the 1000$ wasn't planned for wheel/tire combo either cause I will probably get the car running and working with the wheels and tires i have now.

Why can't you run in an open prepared class? What is it, D prepared? or something like that??

Edit, ok I was reading the SCCA Solo rules, and you can't run prepared, but I haven't found a thing that says you can't run Modified classes....

          what am I missing?

SCCA club racing classes, not autocross.

I run with local auto cross groups for autocross, although i might get into SCCA for autocross too

whoa... im going to use the festiva, do to my DE and Track days, to get my SCCA club racing license, so i can compete in club races if i get a car that fits one of the groups (easier to have your license then get a car), then i will continue to do track days after i get my license, along with competeing in autocross even while i am getting my license.... didn't think it was that complicated lol
