So while waiting for my pump and belts i started attacking the floor boards, i got a bigger problem than i thought i did

anyone else ever attack a problem like this?

i tried welding a patch in one small hole. Man, this is gonna be a problem. The under coating caught fire and the grage was filled with black smoke by the time i was gone welding up the one (2"x2") hole.

Should i just pop-rivet the pieces in?

i would stick with welding it in
There is no replacement for displacement, except for the turbo in my basement.

^ you can if you cut out all the rust, spray it with primer, then silicone it shut. But welding is better structurally
It's a good thing you don't read the stickies, you might of learned something.Poverty produces creativity

dont pop rivet or silicone it. They can trap water and do the exact same thing. deffinatly weld it

You know if you have new parts, just clean everything really good wire wheel/sand/etc and buy some Chem weld.
They use it to weld race cars together now, its just as strong and welding and wont rust. You can buy it at body shop supply places.

            Thanks

Personally, I'd go the with the pop-rivet method. Get some spray undercoating stuff and lay a nice thick coat around the holes *before* riveting on the patches. Then spray more stuff on the patch from above & below. It'll last for years...

They sell panel adhesives that are very strong. Then undercoat it.

You can get the spray on bedliner in aresal cans now, after you fix that rust, spray the whole floor with it. Then if you want replace the carpet or leave it out because it will protect the floor even better.

I think I'm just gonna pop rivet the rest in. I welded another one in and the the bottom of the car caught fire real bad.

Anyone have any personal experince with any specific brand or type of panel adhesive? I was looking into that to fix the rusted spots in my rockers

Just put carpet on top of it

Maybe a lower power welder, like a wall unit won't catch it on fire. I dont trust rivets, especially on intense rust.

you can grind the undercoat off. we have weld thru it all the time at work, no big, wire wheels work well too for removal, it will not continue to burn like a rag or insulation. once you remove heat it will smolder and blow out. and welding is welding, only thing youll get from a 110 buzzbox is an electric bill capable of inducing a heart attack
