I will call the guy when I get home after school tomorrow. I am not pumped about the 4-spd and it being carbed but I love the factory Black. The thing is just a baby at only 32K so I would feel bad about doing a BP swap but whatever. I would not mind talking the guy down a bit on the price also(maybe $1000 because thats about how much I have).

I showed the Festiva's listing to my dad tonight and he seemed a lot more open to it because of it's low mileage and the fact that it is half the price of the other one I looked at.

    This could be the one.

Just got off with the phone with the owner. It is an automatic( ) He was really nice and he knew what he was talking about. I just dont know if I can afford to buy an automatic even if I am planning on a BP swap. I might still go look at it since it is still a good deal overall.

What would it take to convert this to a 5-SPD BP powered festiva? Could it be worth it?

      Kevin

BTW: It has AC but he said it was the only thing not working on the car.

Well, automatics are virtually indestructible. DJ had one on his BP car, Zippy. Takeoff was a tad slow but once you got going that car was unstoppable.

If you keep the auto you don't have to worry about custom transmission mounts/linkage/etc.

From what I've heard, converting to a 5 speed isn't that hard though.

The festiva is Fuel Injected due to it being an automatic. I really want a 5-spd though. I will think about it some more because it is so rare to find a festiva with such low miles. I will keep you guys posted about what happens.

Seriously? I live in GA so I dont know how practical it would be. Do you want it as a freebee or would you pay for it?

Ill pay you for it, and then use that money towards hiring htchbck to help you do the swap..then maybe him and I could figure out how to get the motor here. Always thinking I have an 1989 auto with air that I could put that engine in. Just an idea

I was reading down through these posts one by one while planning my summer out in my head ... looks like first up is for me and av8ter to locate a BP (actually I know where a nice 100K one is for $300, same place I bought mine at) and since the car is already EFI it won't take too much wiring (which is what I was afraid of when I saw that it was an 89)... then he has to decide whether to keep the auto or look for a G25MR and capri axles... unless he'd rather use the 150K stock five speed thats sitting in my garage right now... either way I got a feeling we will be pulling the stock motor and installing the BP, and then I'll be taking a trip up to some place in MO with a 30K B3 and my engine hoist in the trunk of the silver... sounds like a fun summer so far

                    Oh and...

True, but a BP festy is pretty darn close, and heck of a lot faster
                    No festiva for me ATM...

My idea was that I would drive down to pick up the engine. I had GA on my mind. Thus the "nothing runs like a stock festy" comment. Long trip, small payload. easy on the wallet. I wasn't suggesting you haul the motor up here and install it for me. Ive pulled and installed a couple of B3s myself( never in under 12 hours) , got a chain hoist hanging off a steel girder in the shop. I was just interested in the low mileage b3 if its going to get pulled. Probably a long shot. Ive already got an extra good motor with 103,000 on it but you cant have too many.

Yes, the BP is a lot faster

Well whatever you decide to do is fine, but if you'd like a hand changing the motor I really want to take the silver on some kind of trip this summer, at least for a weekend... if you do come down here to GA don't forget to stop by and visit me, you're always welcome here!

About how fast is the typical BP Festiva? 0-60? 1/4mile?

Finally purchased a car today. It is a 1988 L with 206,000 miles and a decent body, and great interior. Got it for $800 and I think it was a good deal because festivas are hard to find around here. It is a good candidate for a complete overhaul, but is real nice as of now. Alot of new parts were put on last year so it runs decent. The roads here suck so I will dodging pot holes, and cranking the radio up due to all of the interior drone. I am completely pumped!!!!

                            Hi res pics tomorow morning!

Oh, and tint, r-134 converted A/C, and int. wiper control.

About what time ? Way to go, glad you found one. Most festivas just need someone to treat them right and they will out perform your expectations. Good snag, there is plenty of help here if you need any. The older interiors were the best.
