President Chavez of Venezuela threatened to "sweep off the map" the Venezuelan Communist Party[PCV] and...leftist party Patria Para Todos[PPT], because they launched alternative candidates in the coming election.

PCV leader Figuera replied to Chavez' threats: "We have just completed 77 years in Venezuela struggling for Socialism all our lives and those that try by revolutionary rhetoric to sabotage the building of Socialism are not real communists!"

Both the PCV & PPT remain in the coalition of pro President Chavez parties, called the Patriotic Alliance.

Figuera stated that Chavez will not be able to destroy the Communist Party just as former Chilean dictators could not do!
