Okay, well, the 31st of October didn't happen. Rebuilt my carb, put it back on the car, and was somewhat improved, but not much. Installed the carb today that I got in the mail, and the car starts and runs fine now. Don't even have to touch the gas to start it, which has not been the case for years. The only problem I seem to be having now is engine run on after I shut the car off. Just got everything back together, so gonna worry about that problem tomorrow. Tho, any thoughts would be welcome. Interesting, didn't have that problem with the old carb, but it ran so crappy don't think I would have known anyway. And before anyone asks, yes I did change the fuel filter during the carb swap.
So, the end result is, much better, but not fixed.

engine run-on is usually due to carbon build-up on the back of the intake valves and on the tops of the pistons. Do a top-end cleaning, replace your sparkplugs, check you ignition timing, and see if the problem improves any.

Well, still have to make some adjustments on the carb, but as it was getting dark, and I was working outside, had to call it a night. Should be able to sort it out tomorrow. But it started without me having to touch the gas pedal, and stayed running on its own, which it has not done in awhile. Oh, and she'll finally get some fresh gasoline. The stuff in the tank has been there since, oh, July. ops:
Then gonna take her out for her first drive in about 2 years.

Pics?? Looks just like it always has, like in my avatar. But I do need to take some new pics, all my old ones were lost when my old computer crashed.
Was gonna try the tremclad and repaint her this year, but think I might let her go until spring before I mess with that. Plus everyone will be able to see that it's the ORIGINAL Batstiva, and not some cheap knock-off.
I think I found the source of my run on problem, the spring that is supposed to tension the idle settings on the drivers side of the carb is just way too loose, and it's not closing when I shut the car off, pulling it in a few minutes and heading to the parts store. The new carb didn't have one, and the one that I am using now is off the old carb. I guess after 21 years, it has an excuse to be worn out.
But other than that, she's good to go. :headbang: :wav: :headbang:

Well, almost saved. Figured out that my MAP sensor is f----d up. If I unplug power or disco the hose, the car starts and runs fine, but with very high idle. As soon as I reconnect the sensor, the car dies.
Ordered a new one, so gotta wait a couple of days now.

Already ordered off ebay, should be here in a couple of days. Geez, I'm about to think this needs to be moved to the repair forum. Now the new carb is doing the same thing the old carb was doing. I know the MAP sensor is bad, was told it was probably bad a few years ago, but tried to avoid changing it because they are over 300 bucks, and at the time this was my beater car and I didn't want to spend the money. (The one on ebay was $90, BTW).
The only thing I can't get my head around is why it ran so well all day yesterday, even with the bad MAP sensor, and today it all went down hill. Could whatever a bad MAP sensor does, could it cause a build up, or something, in the carb that would take a while to show up, and then just be there?
Sorry, had to rant a little bit, it's like every problem solved creates a new one.
