  • valve cover TORQUE Values? w/NEW rubber gasket (VS50309R)

    '90 Festiva L- Plus 1.3L FI 5speed

Son wants us to replace the leaking original valve cover gasket, on his proud "new" car.

( I always use Fel-Pro Perma-Dry gaskets and never have further leaks.)

The gasket box says only "Torque to OEM specifications."

BUT his ALLDATA online manual does not list a torque value for the valve cover/gasket.

And the Haynes Manual #36030 is not in stock at local Advance or Autozone stores , and the 1 copy in the library is out and on hold.

I can hand tighten for now, since its been leaking since he got it anyway.

But if anyone can help, we certainly appreciate it.

Any other "new owner" suggestions also?
( I have quickly scanned through this site but not in depth (yet). GREAT SITE !)

I have already stopped the biggest oil flood by replacing the dried out O-ring on the distributor. ( $2 )

And hopefully the other end ( @ the cam , crank, timing belt ) still has good seals.

Car runs great and is a ball of fun!
AC ( R134 convert) even works great!

    THANKS!

=just barely. More of tweak than a torque.

grab a 3/8 drive ratched by the head wrapping your fingers around the deep reach socket and twist them all about the same. Repeat once or twice.
I dunno worked for me with Felpro's
            it runs so sweet

              THANK YOU ALL !
Now , if son will show up after work with the car , I can replace the VC gasket and continue finding and fixing the oil leaks!

I will post the results here.

Meanwhile, hopefully you can answer another question that I will post in a separate post.

              THANKS !

The front main seal is another popular leak!

I like to put grease, like high-temp wheel bearing grease, on valve cover and oil pan gaskets to prevent leaking. I also use it for oil filter gaskets and the threads on oil drain plugs. Guaranteed no leaks ever; I never have to replace those little seals on the drain plugs.
