  • Asipre swap done= Clicking drivers hub under accleration

OK, i wrapped up my aspire swap today. Finished the front and also replaced the booster/MC with that out of a manual aspire. NOW, after im finished i took it out for a spin and i'm getting clicking from the drivers hub under acceleration. Mostly thru 2nd gear. It dosent click when i down shift/engine brake. My only thought is CV joints? But they were FINE before i did the swap. Whats going on here?? Please help i have to have this fixed by the end of the weekend because my 30 day deadline to get it re inspected is coming up.

    Springs?

    What springs did you use?
I used the aspire springs and it raised the car about 2".
Mine clicks a little at slow speeds but I think it is from the CV joint angle change. the Balls in the inner joint (trans side) may be running out of the wear grooves in my used axels it may be the problem. I don't know yet. mine is not bad so I am waiting til later to attack that one.
It may be a length problem too but as I said mine isn't very bad.

I would look at replacing the offending halfshaft $50 most places

Ok, Is there any thing i can examine to tell if its worn? I jacked up the car and the only play i can find in it is inline, about 1/16" back and forth.

I just find it weird that it was fine before the swap and now it sounds like its gonna blow. The only thing i can think of was my friend tapped the half shaft out of the hub with a punch/hammer because it was stuck. Could this have damaged anything?

1/16" back and forth is prolly a good thing. can you hear the clicking when you rotate the wheel by hand? it may help to have a cheap sthescope to listen with.

i cant hear any clicking when i rotate the wheel. infact it dosent seem to make any clicking at slow speed. its only when you hit 2nd gear when it starts getting bad

I wonder if its in the trans and it just happened to start when you did the swap?

Put the car on jack stands and run it. See if you can pin point the noise.

it dosent make the noise when its off the ground. I noticed today that it really only makes the sound when your in the throttle. i.e. when you let off the gas it stops.

could it be my alignment? i notice the camber on my drivers wheel is funny.

Ok, my friend had the idea that maybe the rim was bent. Rotated the front tires and no change.

I notice that the driver's wheel camber is off, the bottom of the wheel is pulled out and the top of the wheel is out pretty far. Its visibly off by an inch or so.

Another observation; Under a hard right turn the drivers wheel sounds strange like its skidding or something.

How is the wheel bearing on the passenger side? (for that matter they should both be done)
The front end needs alignment? (this may not cure the clicking but sounds like it need doing.)
Can you get an extension on the Inspection?

WOW , that sounds terrible !!

That is a little more than a click ..more like a knock .

If your CV's are good , I am going to go with an internal tranny problem , like a bearing .
