  • Mystery gasket?

    88 LX
    125k manual

Replacing the cylinder head and decided to clean everything before putting it back together. Got the valve cover off and noticed the little splash shield thing inside. I removed that and noticed it had a gasket between it and the valve cover. Does this gasket come with a typical head gasket set? What's it called in case I need to buy it separate? Or do I even need it? Thanks.

what I did was clean the cover and the splash shield,, and put them together with rtv grey silicon, let them dry half a day .

I was able to get that "mystery" gasket as part of a valve cover gasket set from NAPA auto parts. Part # VS50037. I never did use the gasket however because I could not break loose some of the screws at the time.

That gasket is usually supplied with a cylinder head gasket set.
