1990, manual, AC, money pit. My Festiva's front cross member has rusted at the transaxle support attach points. I have installed a fix that works but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced replacing a front cross member. Thanks in advance.

Where do you live that that part would rust so bad that it had to be fixed but the rest of the car was still usable.

I can tell you what I saw a guy do last weekend replacing the crossmember in another car: the car was on a hoist, a tall jack stand was placed under the engine/tranny to support it, and the crossmember was yanked out, leaving the engine and trans in place. I can't see why it wouldn't work for you as well.

Freshtiva. Only the mounting point area is gone. That is maybe 4 to 5 inches. The radiator support is still intact. The repair is coming along. If I can find a good cross member, I'll replace the section between the stabilizer attach points. Replacing the entire member could be a real bear of a job.
Lots of rust thru-out the car but runs well and interior is clean. Good daily driver. I'm thinking we should "leave no Festiva behind."

Miamiman, I have a lead on a couple of hulks in Alton IL. Will motor up there soon to check 'em out. Talked to a guy from Shipman IL who has several cars in various conditions. Won't part out but will sell whole car(s) The code enforcement police would be on me like rust on a nut. My location is actually across the river in Belleville. Don't know why I'm even doing all this. I'm a 71 yr old phart that should be fishin' or rockin'

Got to Speedway. I'll be going back to get the cross member. Almost a shame to cut the metal. The floorpan and the unibody in general is in darn good shape. No rust!

I installed a workable temporary patch on my car so it can be driven until I get the replacement cross member installed.
Does anyone know of a source for new isolation grommets?
