  • blah. my fest let me down yet again

so yesterday morning im driving to my friends place and when im three blocks away, i go thru an intersection, and my fest starts surging and then it dies. I managed to coast out of the intersection. It felt to me linda like it ran out of gas. I tried restarting it then it died again, then it wouldn't restart. So i was close to my friends place so i just pushed it the 3 blocks lol. then when i got there i cranked on it and it started, but died fast. It seems like it will start for a second after sitting for awhile.

    any ideas?

I haven't tested anything yet, because i was helping my friend install a lift kit on his jeep until 1.30AM then we just flat-towed it home to my place.

Sounds like maybe the fuel pump or the fuel filter to me.

Stupid question, but did it run out of gas? If that's what it felt, like maybe that's what it is. Sorry, not trying to be condascending.

Ok. i pulled off my fuel filter and i could barley blow thru it. so i replaced it and it still wont start. do you have to do anything to bleed all the air out of the lines?

            -there is gas
            -didnt notice any electrical problems
-airbox connector is kinds screwey, but ive forgotten it disconnected before and it idles, but dies when you hit the gas.

ok. im by myself, but i tried spraying starter fluid into the intake then running to crank on it and it would fire but not run
i disconnected the fuel line after the filter and put it in a cup and im getting gas. not sure how much im supposed to be getting though.

                  Fuel Injectors malfunction perhaps?

seems like it. she fires with starter fluid. if i turn the engine over aprox 3 times i get a bit of fuel in the glass.
i thought the filter was my prob forsure. it was a rusty lump and i could barley blow thru it.
after cranking on it for awile i pulled out a plug and it was dry and i didnt smell gas.
im confused. the rail cant be completely blocked out of noware? and not all 4 injectors would sieze up at once not letting any gas in?
how can i test if the injectors are getting signal? are those lights anything special or can i use a multimeter?
how dose the FPR work? is it like an air reg physically regulating the pressure? could that thing give?
will the reg/injectors not let gas pass if there is low pressure? perhaps my pump is weak from fighting that plugged filter.

i really need to get this thing running reliably because im starting a full time job on tuesday. eek!

If you think fuel injectors cause the problems, here I do have spare 4 fuel injectors that was working fine and good looking. I would interested to trade that I need something. I remember one time my old 1989 EFI the fuel injectors got toasted and couldn't start up so I used with camp propane hook up it was runs ok at idle that might worth to test with propane to see if fuel injectors or fuel system really are toasted.

You should get a lot more then just a bit of fuel when you turn the key on..... you do not need to crank it to get fuel flowing. At least on mine you can hear the pump run when you turn the key. The sock on your pump could be plugged or the ends of your injectors... IMO

i remember back in the 70s early 80s about the sock filter collapsing or getting pluged. we would take some compressed air though the fuel line to blow it off.

shake the wiring to the vaf meter box to see if it the wiring doing this like it has done to mine..it does not cost you any money or alot of time to do this.
