I'm from Eastern Washington (the state). I have a 1993 Festiva L with 91,000 miles, 2 doors, manual, and absolutely no accessories.
I can't get the thing to run. I know it is a fuel problem because if I spray starter fluid (or gas, whew, stand back) it runs, rough, but it runs. I replaced the fuel pump and it ran great for about 2 weeks, then Poof. No go. I bench tested the new pump, it's fine. I have power from the pump to the little plug thing in back (I have no idea what it's called) and I have power from the plug thing back up to the engine (don't know what that's called either). The car turns over just fine. But it won't run. I replaced the distributor thinking it was the crankshaft position sensor. When I replaced it it did have oil all over it. It started and ran for about 45 seconds. While I was celebrating my victory and dancing around the yard, it died. Same old thing. Starter fluid gets it to run, but that's all. I can't find a fuel pump relay, or a fuel pump fuse. HELP, HELP, HELP. I have a Haynes manual, and have done everything they suggest. (I also know where to get more manuals, if anyone needs them).
I have read everything I can find on the internet. I have been working on this problem since...God, I have no idea...sometime in the spring, cuz it was cold...then it got hot, and now it's cold again, yeah spring.
I hate to have to take it in to a shop, one because I'll have to have it towed, and two because I don't like giving them my money. I'll have to start streetwalking to pay the mechanic's bill.
I'm going to go home and pull the distributor out and clean up any oil like kzbill describes. Other than that, I'm stumped. ANY help will be much appreciated.
