TIM= It could be, if you looked at it in Deer Park. I bought it and had it running for about 1000 miles. The fuel pump was bad and the timing was so far off it wouldn't start.
KZBILL=So would the car not send fuel if I didn't have the VAF attached correctly?? Because I did have it off so I could see the timing marks. If that's it, I'll probably cry. Is the VAF a replaceable part?
Last night I pulled the distributor and checked it over. I also checked to see if it was throwing any engine codes. It isn't. When I turn the key the engine light stayed on for a bit then went out and didn't come back on. Maybe in my impatience I didn't wait long enough. I'll try again tonight with more patience.
I also found the fuel cut-off switch in back, but it wasn't tripped either.
I think this car sat for over 2 years before I bought it. I don't know if that could have anything to do with it. I know it smokes like a chimney if you try to use engine compression to slow you going down a hill. Could that be because all the gaskets and rings and stuff got dry from sitting for so long?
If I can't get it running before winter sets in I may just turn it into a doghouse for my Rottie. All the dogs sit in it when I'm working on it anyway.
I'm still looking for a fuel pump fuse, anyone???Where am I, and what am I doing in this handbasket??

Okay...you can rule out if the fuel pump is engaging by taking off your gas cap and putting your ear down by the fill tube. Then, just have your son turn the key over, so that your dash lights come on. If you hear a noise from the fill tube that means that your fuel pump is getting power, and you can rule out the fuse. I REALLY think that it is the injectors. It was a problem on BOTH of my festivas, and they sat for 3 years and 1.5 years. Are you sure you took the correct hose off when you were checking for fuel?90 Festiva with Brand new B3, 5spd

I thought that the fuel pump on all EFI engines didn't turn on until after the CPS detected that the camshaft was turning. I'm sure I took off the correct hose because it was going into the fuel filter and before when it was running fuel came out of that hose. I'll put my ear to the tank when I get home. Now I'm wondering if there isn't an obstruction in the fuel line coming from the tank, since it set so long maybe it is all crapped up.
The car was running when I parked it in the driveway. The next morning when I went to turn it on it wouldn't start...and so it sits. Would the injectors fail so quickly? I always figured I'd get some sputtering or something first.Where am I, and what am I doing in this handbasket??

The injectors could definately fail that quickly. If one of them got stuck closed that could be the issue, and if they arent spraying the fuel the way they should (if they were gunked up from sitting) that could be the issue as well.90 Festiva with Brand new B3, 5spd

Center fusible link under the hood behind the battery to the left of the coolant overflow drain tube on the driver-side strut tower.
Brown I believe.
Can replace with a 40A cartridge fuse, green I believe from any McParts place (Autozone, Advance, O'Rily's, etc.)'93 Blue 5spd 230K(down for clutch and overall maintanence)

my fuel pump dosent make noise when i turn the key on. however i get good pressure when i jump the test connector / crank the engine.
also, my car will run without the VAF connected. however it will die soon as you give it some gas.89SX funtop! Fully loaded!

Check your HANES manual for Preliminary inspection of the fuel pump. Chapter 4 section 3 step #6 "Should the fuel system tail to deliver the proper amount of fuel at all inspect it as follows. Remove the fuel filler cap. Have an assistant turn the ignition key to the On position (engine not running) while you listen at the fuel filler opening/ You should hear a whirring sound that lasts for a couple of seconds." step # 7 "If you dont hear anything, check the fuel pump fuse" Pu241 said the fusable links are under the hood on the strut tower.90 Festiva with Brand new B3, 5spd
