Started up.. warmed it up.. then abotu a 1/2 mile down the road... rpms dropped to 0 and it died. WHAT THE F? This is my current car.. and it gets me to work. O one more thing... when i usally crank it the tach jumps... but now it doesnt. Coil was my guess....

UPDATE... above the dist cap there is a little black sensor with a very thin wire linking it to the coil. THe wire was disconnected or rather ripped at the base of the sensor. What is this sensors purpose.. and could it cause my car to completly die?88' Ford Festiva

Is that the igniter, or resistor ??

Very possible for the wire to become brittle and break , it is close to a heat source .------------------------------------------------

That's no sensor. It's a capacitor or something. It's embedded in a block of black stuff.
I'm at the library so can't take a look right now. Pretty sure it's mentioned in the Haynes manual. Will try to remember to look it up when I get home.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.

have you tested your coil?? they tend to go bad (previous experiance)Trees aren't kind to me...
